Got ya- I have one of those little yellow Garmins I use to put in my pocket testing my scooter (76MPH on 4" tires- not the brightest thing to do..)
Get a Lowrance XOG, I use it and it works great

I have a small hand held garmin. Older model, no preset maps in it, just records location, speed, its good for the basic stuff

BMW makes a nice unit. probably more than you want to spend.
Lowrance XOG but... you will need to get a RAM or the Lowrance handlebar mount. Also need to wire it to 12 volts cause the battery life sucks. For the money you cant beat it. I got mine for 69.00.
