My friend wants to trade his 540ci 750hp engs. for my 500 efis.


pros/ cons.

Pro- it will be fast as hell. in my 390 velocity

con- it could de value the boat.

pro- thay look cool as hell

con- blowers use more fuel.

con-more maintance.

Tom, do you drive the hell out of your boat? - 500 efi
do you mostly take it easy w/occasional blast? - 540 sc for coolness

Depends on the mood . I generaly keep them about 4000 rpms . but im not known for beeing gentle.

Are you keeping the boat or selling it in the near furure.

Everything is for sale. Is it worth more with 500s or the 540s. dep. on who wants it.

Insurance may go up. I would be wondering why he wants to go slower. He would rather have your engines, maybe you should too.
Like Stan Lee says "With great power comes great responsibility"...I mean expense, LOL

If you are OK with spending money and brreaking stuff, there is nothing cooler than big power.

Bravo and blowers on a boat that large you gotta be careful in my opinion. Right now you do trouble free boating...but I can see how the itch gets worse and worse!

I think im staying with plan a rebuild 500s with atco eng. shop kit. brings them to 625hp.

If you're gonna do that, swap him and take the blowers off, or re-pulley them down to 700 HP. Should run for awhile with no problems. Like until you get best and re-pulley them back up. At least as reliable as what you are considering doing. There is no reason a mild boost blown engine should not be as reliable as a heavily tweaked noturally aspirated one.

At that HP range in your boat, the drives should last awhile. And there is certainly Bravo improvement kits that will allow them to last.

That is light. My 28 weighs almost that.
Recently went the route of the Ateco kits. If you do.... build some time into your plan. Great price, but I waited nearly 60 days from order to delivery. They spent a long time at Scat. Maybe was the busy season for balancing.

The kit i liked was the one with alm. heads cam and everything to do the job inc. ecu.I think it was $4100.

I think that's a good plan!! NA'ed will help with your bravo's!! Also, if you buy his 540's, 650 hp NA'ed is pretty standard with a Crane 741 Cam. Depending on the compression ratio it could be as simple as a head gasket change but even if you have to change pistons you can sell the blowers to offset the cost of pistons and you'd be ahead of the game!

My friend has a 41' and ran 550's on stock Bravo's for years without any problems. The boat is real light as well, no cabin. He had the 509"s punched to 522" and 650 hp so we'll have to see what it does!
