It's definitely a bit worrisome.

Here are some stats:
---------

• Deaths: 159, all in Mexico, with seven confirmed as swine flu and rest suspected. One confirmed in U.S., a nearly two-year-old boy from Mexico who died in Houston.
• Sickened: 2,498 suspected and 19 confirmed in Mexico. 66 confirmed in U.S. Confirmed elsewhere: 91 in U.S.; 13 in Canada; 14 in New Zealand; five in Britain; three in Germany; four in Spain; two in Israel; and one in Austria.
• U.S. cases: Confirmed by CDC: 45 in New York, 11 in California, six in Texas, two in Kansas, and one each in Indiana and Ohio.
• In Mexico: All schools suspended until May 6. In Mexico City, surgical masks given to subway passengers, public events canceled, public venues closed and church services postponed.
• In U.S: U.S. Food and Drug Administration issues emergency guidance allowing certain antiviral drugs to be used. Public health emergency declared and roughly 12 million doses of Tamiflu to be delivered to states. Nonessential travel to Mexico discouraged and arriving travelers questioned at border.
• Worldwide: WHO says disease spreads easily but isn't pandemic. European Union health commissioner urges Europeans to postpone nonessential travel to U.S. and Mexico.

Here are a couple of quotes from the Globe and Mail.....

"On Tuesday, the Canadian government urged that all unnecessary trips to Mexico be cancelled or postponed. But health officials stopped short of imposing a ban on travel to that country."

"Transat A.T. Inc., Air Canada Vacations, Sunwing Travel Group and Sunquest Vacations said Tuesday that they have suspended service to Mexico. Mexican tour packages will become available again in late May or early June, depending on the company.WestJet Airlines Ltd. and WestJet Vacations said they will halt flights to Mexico on Monday, while Air Canada said it plans to maintain scheduled service to Mexico City.

Travellers returning from Mexico will find themselves subjected to enhanced screening by customs officials. They will be asked if they have a fever or a cough or if they have been in contact with someone who had those symptoms. Those who respond in the affirmative will be asked to isolate themselves at home or, in more severe cases, to go to a hospital."

My wife is a RN, and anyone who calls the Family Medical Clinic where she works is being told not to come to the clinic, but to report to an ER if they have any symptoms....h

And influenza kills somehwere between 36000 and 56000 in the US every year.

Swine flu?

And then the press reports Egypt is killing all their pigs just in case. Like what, all 2 of them? Hysteria.

Yikes...we just had pork chops tonight... I hope this is just a precautionary warning about this strain of flu....

I remember all of the "public informational" spots that were running back in 76' when it was supposed to be a big deal and in the end the cure was much worse than the illness at that time...

It's Bush's fault!
Sorry. Couldn't resist.

Nope this is under Barry's watch we will see just how well he deals with it....hopefully not like the Financial and Auto Industries....

I hear it causes diarrhea....Barry's been yapping way too long tonight...."diarrhea of the mouth" i think he has it...

It is a human varient of 4 viruses. It DOES NOT come from food. It doesn't even directly come from pigs. Only other infected humans. Wash you hands. Stay away from sick people. You'll probably be ok.

On the news this morning, a cruise ship just arrived in Tampa from Mexico, and another one is inbound. Great, just friggin' great!...

But I see they're doing all they can to prevent the potential spread of this...they're "asking departing passengers if they're feeling okay." Ya, that'll stop it.

It's not caught from eating pork. It's called swine ful because they feel it's insulting to name it after where it came from, Mexican Flu.

Clay, will this week's Claymates be in burkah's?

Dr Clay

Thank you for your concern but I think all the ladies on the Bullet need a full checkup and to make sure it is done right be sure to post the photos. They can wear nurse outfits to make it look authentic.

Texas is next to Mexico......

We leave for Cancun next Thursday.

Luckiliy it is all inclusive and I don't think any virus in the world stands a fighting chance of living, much less thriving, in my body considering what I will undoubtedly put it through.
