but it's shale...much harder to access then just sticking a hole in the ground and turning the pumps on. at $50 a barrel it's not feasible...

But with the advances in technology, and rising crude prices, it becomes more, and more feasible.

There were lots of guys hauling pipe and stuff from Texas to the Bakken but I imagine that has slowed down now with $50/bbl prices. And besides, shale oil has almost no upside to it, either in extraction or refining. Dealing with Venzuela would be a lot cheaper in the long run.
