View Full Version : Cold Temps Again- Getting worried...

It's starting to snow here, again, last week was great and took the boat out for the first run of the season. It started snowing again a little while ago so I checked the forecast, a couple nights in the next week or so are going down to about 28, and days around 48-50. It's going down to 27 tonight, wondering if I should put a light or something in the engine compartment?? The motor is full of water now (thought warmer weather was going stay) and I don't want it to freeze. What do you guys think?? Thanks!

Yes, two 100 watt bulbs. In case one screws up.

Got it, should they go under the motor or just somewhere in the compartment?

It's supposed to freeze in Jacksonville tonight. :(

I always put them as low as possible in the engine compartment but not too close to anything that may melt, etc. Heat rises. With two it will stay about 20 degrees above ambient temp or more. If one goes out, it will still stay 10 or so above.

cold as heck here today,snowed,I think we gained another inch of ice on the lake.Maybe I can get the boat out of the pole barn by the middle of May!

Done deal, I didn't have 100 watters, but had 75's, that should be good enough I would think. And here I thought this crap was over... wishful thinking.

might not be a bad idea to stuff some rags or something in the blower holes so that the heat stays in! ive heard of a couple guys doing that also!

If you feel adventurous bring it on down here till the run where it is a bit warmer. Oh ya, only by maybe 8-10*.

I have 21 boats in the water already. Can you guess what I did this afternoon? Time to have the guys pull the plugs and drain risers and blocks.

Oh man, that sucks! It was 70* here last Thursday, looked at the weather to see what the temps were going to do and it was just barely going to kiss 32* at night for the next week. Thought I would be good to go, went for a run, had a blast and now this crap! Here's the first pic in the water since the new paint! Can't wait til May 2nd now!!! Have to get working on fabbing my swim platform now...

Like Mahopac had his guys do, drain the exhaust and block. That will be addid insurance with the lights, and very easy.

We got hit with a winter storm. 5" of heavy wet snow then snap cold and windy as a mother.

At least my motor is warm and dry at the builders :)

I would not even worry about overnight lows in the upper 20's. It will only be below freezing for a couple hours and thats not enough to freeze the water in the engines.
