Dear NPBA Poker Runner,

We are reinventing the NEW YORK CITY POWERBOAT POKER RUN…or should I say modifying it due to the economic downturn in the Marine Industry.
Actually…we are trying to keep it alive.

Due to its enormous cost to produce, we have had to rely on large sponsorship dollars to make it GRAND.

Today, we have limited sponsor dollars…so it is back to the “marina” style event that I started with…not a bad thing, but I need to know who shares the “Spirit of the NPBA” with me and who wants to play on June 20th?

Please reply ASAP, so I get a “head-count” on:

1. Do you plan to come and enter?
2. What boat you plan on entering.
3. I also need to know how many people will be in your crew.

Please reply ASAP.

Best regards,
Billy Frenz

It would be a shame if this doesn't happen this year. Did the run for the 1st time last year and it was a blast, especially hearing all of the old "battle" stories being shared between the Hall of Fame inductee's.

Immediate Release:
March 30, 2009
.
The prestigious NEW YORK CITY POWERBOAT POKER RUN 2009 will take place on the Hudson River on Saturday, June 20th at 12:00 Noon. This Annual Boating Extravaganza, filmed and broadcast internationally, will feature over 100
“state of the art” speedboats and express cruisers in what has grown to become one of the largest boating events in America.
The who’s who of performance boats and cruisers will be there.
From 200 mph Catamarans to Luxury Express Cruisers and Yachts, all have come “on-board” to experience the thrill of running the Hudson River…New York City style!

Every fan and enthusiast is invited to view the boats and meet the teams at Liberty Landing Marina in Liberty State Park, Jersey City, NJ., adjacent to the Statue of Liberty and just opposite Manhattan’s financial district. Displays open on Friday, June 19th, 2009.

As seen on national TV, our gathering of the “Kings and Queens” of the sport has become as exciting as the run itself, with 2 parties and the poker run taking place inside a 36 hour period. This is the time to make new friends from across the nation and around the world. Contestants come from all four corners of America, Canada and Europe.

New this year will be the induction of the Sophomore Class of The N.P.B.A “HALL OF FAME”. They are members of an elite group of racers who competed during the 70’s and 80’s on the National Powerboat Association’s Offshore Powerboat Race Circuit. It is interesting to still recognize the names of boaters who have excelled in the powerboat industry or who have made significant contributions to the sport…they started right here in the N.P.B.A.

The rally will begin at noon-time with our Patriotic Powerboat Parade up the Hudson River. We will “march” from the Statue of Liberty to the George Washington Bridge…flying our American Flags, and then unleash all of that horsepower to start the Event’s 1st leg to the Tappan Zee Bridge. The Poker Run will then continue on to Ossining Boat and Canoe Club, Peekskill Harbor, then Haverstraw Marina. The last leg is a straight run to the finish at Liberty Landing Marina. Pleasure boating has never been so Hi-Tech and “state-of-the-art” as is seen in today’s models, nor have the boats gone as fast…from the hull designs and construction methods to the advances in engine technologies, these innovations combined equal increased efficiency and performance overall.
THAT MEANS MORE FUN!!!
The NATIONAL POWERBOAT ASSOCIATION is proud to be a part of this great American industry.

All are invited to the most exciting city in the world…

…FASTBOATS…
…FANCY WOMEN…

…a nautical spectacle of speed, glamour, and style.

Wheres Gino? Time for round 2!

:26:

Looks like team Maxed Out is running again this year...they were 1st to the bridge last year, and I'm sure they are coming to play again this year. :sifone:

Looks like a pretty solid line up so far and its still early. Anyone feel like bringing the rear up with me since I'm running in one of the smller boats? I guess I'm not going to be the first to the TZ bridge but maybe I can fill my boat with a bunch of hot chicks and win the best looking crew :biggrinjester:

Anyway, looking forward to this event!

It is true!!! It is confirmed!!! All points bulletin!!!
Jeff, aka, Panama Red/Acapulco Gold/Freeze Frame, will be at the NEW YORK CITY POWERBOAT POKER RUN...signing autographs for all his fans. He was a great competitor and winner during the late 70's and early 80's on the NPBA Circuit. He helped put SUPERBOAT Powerboats "on the map" as the most winningest manufacturer in the northeast. His boats went fast and lasted!
He is bringing his helicopter this year and will be awarding 20 by 24 inch photographs to all of the winners at the event (Best Looking Crew, Best Looking Boat, Best Navigator, Queen of the Hudson, Best Poker Hands).
Lets see how many of you guys remember Jeff and the legacy he has created...lets hear some funny stories...does he still have a pony tail?

For the Express Cruisers, Sport Fish boats, and "non" Go-Fast boats, you can do the parade to the George Washington Bridge (5 miles) at 10 knots with the entire fleet, take the start (be in the pictures) and turn around (in the vicinity of Yonkers Pier or sooner), and return to Liberty Landing Marina. You will be given all of your cards there. FYI, any contestant who misses a checkpoint will receive the balance of their cards/hand at the finish line/Liberty Landing Marina. So everybody gets 5 cards whether they make every checkpoint or not...in contrast to some other organizations' poker runs.
Hope you ALL come out and support the run and keep this event ALIVE!

Yes, it is the old Formula 382 F-2 boat. Not sure what Jason's plans are. I'll ask him tomorrow. My old racing partner, Carl Saitta, wants to come, so he'll probably run the F-2 boat with me. Maybe I'll add some extra seats. I'll also have new 52' Fairline there, so if I was smart (which I'm not!) I'll run the Fairline!

The Festivities begin Friday afternoon, June 19th and the 1st party begins at 6 pm.

There will be a mandatory Captain’s Meeting, Saturday morning at 11 AM with a 12 noon start. Remember, no drinking of alcohol in boats while boats are being operated and maintain a zero policy…until we are back on the dock…then we ROCK!

Checkpoints and co-ordinates:
1. Ossining Boat and Canoe Club N41 09.5 latitude W73 52.3 longitude
2. Peekskill 45’ Houseboat/Bayliner N41 17.3 latitude W73 56.4 longitude
3. Haverstraw Marina N41 13.7 lat W73.57.53 long
4. Liberty Landing Marina N40 42.64 latitude W74 02.59 longitude

Please fly and American Flag during the PATRIOTIC PARADE TO THE BRIDGE…at 10 knots or less…mandated by the Coast Guard and Homeland Security!

STAY BEHIND THE OFFICIAL PACE BOAT at 10 knots or less until I drop the Green Flag at the George Washington Bridge. The “New York” side of the Hudson River is for Commercial traffic, stay to the West/New Jersey side. As we leave the docks, allow time for the OFFICIAL PACEBOAT to get into position, on the NYC side of the Hudson River. Stay to the PORT SIDE OF THE PACEBOAT…there may be an international swim race around Manhattan that morning…lets give them some room.

As we travel from CP #1 (Ossining) to CP#2 (Peekskill), keep the WHITE BUOYS on your Starboard side as we pass the Indian Pt. Nuclear Power Station…if you go inside those buoys, you are going to intercepted by the NAVY…with guns drawn!

If you miss a checkpoint, courtesy card(s) will be given to you back at Liberty Landing Marina. All cards must be turned in by 5 PM. The AWARDS will follow at 6 PM.

The ramp is pretty decent. I remeber a small dock but the day I had to pull out there I had someone helping me. Either myself or one of my crew can always come with you to the ramp and help out if need be. Only thing I ask if you could give us a lift over to the hotel to check-in! :)
