This was an article from the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?"

I thought this was the BEST idea..... I think this guy nailed it!

================================================

Dear Mr. President

Patriotic retirement:

There's about 40 million people over 50 in the work force -pay them $1 million

apiece severance with the following stipulations:

1) They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They buy NEW American cars. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They either buy a house/pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

Can't get any easier than that!

That all looks good on paper.........., but then you have to add in the 40 million poeple that are over 50 living in the projects who never worked a day in thier lives. Jesse Jackson will claim they were all discriminated against by not receiving thier 1 million, and each of those people will get 2 million for thier pain and suffering. :(

That sounds good on the surface, but...

I am 51 years old (this Friday), and I will make well over $1 million dollars between now and 65. So, if I am not "allowed" to work, then it's a sh!tty deal for me.

Also, 40 million people times $1 million dollars equals $40 trillion!

And don't forget about the loss in tax revenue. I would bet that the over-50 crowd pays over 50% of the Federal Income taxes!

I can't check the math, too many zeros......:ack2:

1 Million = 1,000,000 (6 zeros)

1 Billion = 1,000,000,000 (9 zeros)

1 Trillion = 1,000,000,000,000 (12 zeros)

1 Million X 1 Million = 1,000,000,000,000 (6+6 zeros or 12 zeros)

40 Million x $1 Million = $40,000,000,000,000 or $40 trillion!

The "solution" only makes sense if you don't think about it!

I'd rather have $1M now than work for triple that over 14 years

Ben Franklin summed it up the best:

Any government with the power to provide everything you need, has the power to take away everything you have.
