Awesome picture. The building that I marked with a red arrow is Northwesterns graduate school housing. (850 North Lake Shore Drive). It was a great experience. I used to set on the roof and dream about being on the water and having a go fast boat. I was actually studying up there one summer day and heard this boat hallin ass and got up to see it, and as I saw it leaving the break wall it was going to fast and caught a wrong wave and ejected the passengers. I heard later one died, I believe it was a 30 or 35 baja. (2003 I think) Anyone remember this incident. Haven't thought about the incident over the last 5 or 6 years but have always wondered the details.

No really good restaurants that are easy access by boat, Dicks last resort is $20/ hr / boat to tie up. Transcient slips are very expensive. Things along those lines. Not many places you can tied up for free to grab a bite to eat. Not many good ramps that are easy to launch at in the city. Alot easier to navigate if you have good "connections".

My home waters are Lakes Couchiching and Simcoe.
Couch as its known is approximately 11 miles long by 3 wide. It is connected by a narrows to Simcoe which is over 30 miles by 30 miles.

In the middle of Couch is Chief Island or Big Chief as its called locally. Its a no entrance Indian reserve and burial ground but, the shallow sand bottom bays around the island are federally owned and open to the public. Theres a big horshoe shaped bay on the north side which is "the party place" on the lakes. Long weekend bring hundreds of boats and often a live band that plays on a house boat. Any nice summer weekend will find 100 plus boats from little runabouts to perf boats to big cruisers enjoying the bay. Theres a big pontoon boat that serves up BBQ fare on most summer weekends and the port of Orilia is only 2 miles south for restocking trips.

Our cottage is on a small island ( only 8 cottages ) about 1.5 miles south east of the island so we either take my cat or the sea doos or the toon boat ( depending on the size of our group or the days plans ).

The lake is on the Trent Severn water way which connect to Georgian bay and the great lakes so in a couple of hours, we can boat out to the bay and beyond.

There are several board members on the two lakes as well as being home port for Double R performance / Nortech North.

Our boat club hold a few poker runs each summer on the lakes too.

In the sat image below, Lake simcoe is the big part at the bottom and Couch is the long finger running towards the top. Big Chief can be seen in the lower part of Couch.

Yeah that place caught us off guard, but it was a wendsday a couple hours before the fireworks and only a couple boats there. The dock guy was not around and the bartender was cool and let us stay for free. I think she figured we were new since we had no clue about the fireworks. We stayed at the marina across from the stadium (in the pic from post #61) That was pricey, it was like $125 to store the trailer for a couple days plus something like $35 to launch and $35 to retreive plus slip costs.

Very cool boating through the city on the river but I was surprised that you could not tie up on the walls. The cove by navy pier is pretty cool.

Kate and I plan to get that way this summer for sure. You two have any suggestions on a good party weekend.:cheers2:

Todd,
Shoot me an e-mail if you get some time. I have a quick question for you.
supermanstroud@hotmail.com

Also, I believe SBI or one of the associations if having a race in Michigan City this summer in August. Should be a good weekend.

Thanks
Mike

We normally go for a few days over the 4th, not sure about this year I think I might do Lake Charloviox instead. You guys should come to harbor fest in South Haven, starts June 18th and goes all weekend. Ask Popeye Brad about it that his old stomping grounds.

That's it.Beached there a few times myself. Pass by it at least a few times a season on my way up to Starved Rock from Peoria. Just past the bridge to the North off to the right, you can anchor out in some decent depth water and pretty much get out of the current. We'll anchor there and swim if the river is down and clean. Otherwise we anchor in the old gravel pit South of Henry if we want to get in the water.

South Puget Sound, Washington. We live on Hale Pass, just South of the Tacoma Narrows bridge.

Check out www.nwoffshore.com this is out local performance boating site that will give you a good idea of performance boating in the Great Pacific Northwest.

Local "Fun Run" gallery: http://www.nwoffshore.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=578, I'm not sure if you have to sign in or not, but a site worth joining.

Picture of the boat (same as avatar) in on the bouy infront of the house.
Google Earth picture of Puget Sound. We are on the North Side of Hale Pass, about a mile east of the Fox Island Bridge (see tag labeled "The Bare's"). We look at Fox Island. Great place for boating.

A good friend bought a used Formula from them two years ago, drove my wifes Excursion down to pick it up.It was 999 miles to the marina. They seem like really nice folks at Arrowhead.Blew me away to drive in that little road and come up to all those boats in the marina. Then when we left we got gas at that Sinclar gas station, have not seen one of those since the 70's.

Skipper buds seems be buying up alot of marinas in the Michigan, Indiana, Illinois areas. I guess its better than letting them go to the way side.
