That is pretty cool. Gotta love any boat with a carbon fiber chitter, right?

That thing kind of... Beat the hell out of the passangers on the Top Gear episode so bad they didn't want to ride in it any longer..:seeya::seeya:

Running the #'s with the power, seems they should be in the 70 knot range but instead claim 85 knots???

Good speed for the size but unfortunately it is an ugly azz freaking boat....

It looks amazingly like a SUNSEEKER 2000 Buzzi designed both so that should be expected. Wonder if the Sunseeker rode the same as well.

I like the 98 mph top speed but 57mph cruise... hmm..

It's kinda cool, but it's no reverse bow!

High Modulus built Ermis2, a 124' Superyacht that runs 60 knots with trip MTU 16V4000 diesels(3500hp ea) and KaMeWa jet drives.

It's only a 43 foot boat. Why is it even called a yacht?

80 knots is not 98 mph..........

This is another nice yacht. A real wide 80' long full of ammenities..twin 1650 hp get you 60 mph and twin 2400 MTU's gets you 70mph..

Any idea what the XSR 48 costs....

£1.2 million (GBP)

The Nor-Tech would be my choice of the 2.....

Rik
03-19-2009, 01:05 PM
I don't have any idea of the pricing on the Nor Tech, but it has a lot more to offer than this boat which it rightly should as it is twice the size, but it is nearly as fast as a boat half its size with not twice the power.:sifone:

1 knot = 1.150 779 448 mile/hour

glassdave
03-19-2009, 01:17 PM
so 80mph would be 92.06235584kts :D

I can tell ya exactly what a hundred knots is thats for sure . . . . (see Pokerruns America vo.11 N0.10 2008 pg.44 :D)

cigdaze

Actually, a nautical mile is 6080 feet, (A knot is 1 nautical mile per hour), and a statute mile is 5280 feet. The ratio is 1.15151515, so 80 knots is really 92.12121212mph.

Rik

1 nautical mile = SI units
1.8520 km = 1,852.0 m
US customary / Imperial units
1.1508 mi = 6,076.1 ft

I have always used 1.1516 as a nautical mile. Off by a tenth. They have rounded the 1.1507999 to the 1.508 so this is as exact as I can get.

cigdaze
03-19-2009, 05:37 PM
Those are rounded conversions. By definition a nm is 6080 feet, not 6076.1.

if you run that through the Lorentz transform i believe it is just a bit shorter(x) . . . to the observer in the boat (x') at 80 that is :D

Now is that 350 km/h in knots nautical terms or land based, not knots or does the speed count when it is in the air:):)?

Always thought that was a real cool yacht. Supposedly the fastest in the world at that size.

Always wanted to see a vid of it in 8 to 10"s. Wonder how it does?

Might be the last one for the owner. He is a big NY car dealer and that business is in the toilet now. Boat was built for speed but with a 30mm asking price I don't think too many others will want to buy it since it is a maintenance nightmare. Turbines on a mega yacht might be cool to talk about at the yacht club but in reality the owners usually just meet the boat at the destination rather than being pinched for time to get there faster.

Boat probably sucks in anything over 4-5 footers. Keep in mind it is full of furnishings that will break/ bounce around while your trying to air it out!

If I were in the Coast Guard, I'd pull it over too. Probably let them go with just a warning, even if they were on plane running over Manatees, if I got an invite to a cruise later....:sifone:

I've spoken with the owner a few times. The boat does not handle well enough to go as fast it can go. Sad to have power in reserve and not be able to use it. The boat will not even feel a 4-5' swell. Look at the size of the thing mass alone is on its side there. Eventhough everything on the boat was made out of light weight components, it is still massive. Even the Marble counter tops were venered to save weight.

It needs some trim tabs made to calm it down or a bottom rework.

The best I watched the other night The Fastest Yacht in the World sitting at 145ft 28ft Beam 20,000HP Twin turbine, Twin diesel runs a top speed over 70MPH. That is moving for a 145ft boat! "Welcome to The World Is Not Enough"
