Wife goes into the office in the house and smells something burning

She starts checking powercords and outlets and can't find the source of the smell

Finally she finds this (see Picture) on the edge of the worktop. the edge was smoking and melting as she was looking at it. Another 10 minutes and we might have had a fire going

Anyone care to guess what was starting to burn the work top??? (No was not a power cord)

oooohh fried fish! I'm hungry now.

"How'd your house burn down?"

"The fish started a fire..."

That's kind of scary to think of the damage that could have happened. I wonder if the crystals and light catchers referenced by madpoodle could actually do the same thing. Lots of those around.

Wow...I would have never guessed it. Things that make you go...Hummm. But look at it this way...if it did catch on fire, it would have been "self-extinguished" . Dave

That Hindenburg guess was great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad it wasn't worse.
My neighbor lady took here hot ashes from her fireplace last weekend, put them in a bucket, sat in garage (too close to wall), and headed to the grocery store. Few hours later there were LOTS of firetrucks next door:(

Lucky she found it hen she did. I wonder if a fire would have ctually started or not from that.

Sounds like a job for Mythbusters.

That is actually very scary to think that a vase of water could do something like that.

The Mythbusters sounds like a great idea. Let's submit it to there web site.
