Instead of hanging a heavy eggbeater off the back of a minihawk, what if you staggered 2 off these with mini surface drives??

Kawi's latest jetski motor, 260 hp & torque is 177.. prop it down so you don't die.. 520 hp would get that thing moving quick...

You are right. He should think about double staggered trips.
And maybe stick with jet drives to keep the center of gravity from being at the last two feet. :D

You could probably change the pulleys to add more power so you wouldn't be bored.:)

That's what I was getting at- why dick around? You could get a quad of gas turbines from aircraft APU's and chain pairs to each of a set of drives.

And two JATO bottles bracketed to the hull sides.

Maybe that should be our official first SO project?

Now to choose a driver and test site......:)

at least my idea would keep the weight from being PAST the last 2 feet of boat..... and I would be more than happy to test drive it... can we add a canopy?

how about staggering 2 into one jet drive...I bet Dave's friend John could do it. or just 2 side by side?

Go with the Seadoo engine. The RXP guys are getting from 350 to 400 HP with turbos.

A minihawk with a canopy. A great idea. :26:

thats all great to dream about but in reality the jet would work. even one with 240 hp and the mini would fly.

Yeah, you just have to cut up a $12K jetski to get one!

I've always liked those mini boats- only 12' is too short. I'd like to have something in the 16' range and about a 6 or 6.5 foot beam. Styled just like an Apache 41. Paint it just like Warpath.

Mine's 10'. Used to be a great little circuit on the west coast for them. They kind of replaced the Knee-Bangers for a while. A 10' with a 50 in 2's is a handful......:)

Ive got a 16' stepped hull Express cat just sitting waiting for ideas like this. Anyone know a price on thos mini gas turbines that they put in go carts?

Chris

Those are aircraft APU turbines. I see them on Ebay from time to time.

boostbros
01-12-2009, 09:38 AM
those apu or starter turbines are fun to play with but are 100 hp or less very loud ear piercing sound and veryvery thristy

Chris
01-12-2009, 09:53 AM
They're also very fragile compared to a propulsion powerplant. You can get them upwards of 400 HP though. The one's on big jets are quite large. Gearboxes are a problem too, as well as the fact that you can't run them with the output shaft stalled.

You can also get some small turboprop engines with gearboxes in the 400 hp range.

Thirsty is an understatement. We had turbine gensets- the fuel truck would dump 600 gallons into them twice a day. And not those monsters either- little trailer-mounts.
