Boat Anchors

I have a 43 scarab thunder and am tired of lugging ny anchor up the bow to set it. Does any body know of any company that sells a bow mounted anchor like the one you find in the bow of a Fountain Express crusier or similar set up.

Get a mesh anchor bag from Owens Mills or West Marine and store your anchor and rode in the bag. Deploy over the side, back up, and head onto the deck carrying the bag full of line with you. Reverse to retrieve: take the line off the foredeck cleat, carry the bag back to the cockpit, and pull it up from there. Works like a charm for me. My boat has plenty of room in the side compartments to store the bag with the rode and anchor in it. The mesh bag allows the anchor and line to dry out so you don't get mildew issues.

I know I have seen some older Fromula's with the anchor mount on them in the 40+ foot range. Not sure who makes them though...

Just kidding. But seriously, I'm not sure how exactly that would work out (or look) on a performance boat like that. I'd be concerned about an anchor and its rode bouncing around and beating itself up on the bow of an offshore boat. Not to mention, with most of the setups I've seen, the anchors have to be secured with their own line and now you have to have a place to store it all. You'd need some kind of hull pass-through to stow the line. :confused:

I face the same dilemma on my boat, and there's no way I'm climbing up on deck with anchor and rode and line in hand...I just drop it off the stern, quick tie it to a side cleat, then climb up empty handed, and grab the line off the side cleat and do the rest from the bow.

I can't say enough good about mine. Especially with limited storage on my boat, it fits perfect under my back seat.

I have a large Box Anchor (http://www.slideanchor.com/). It works great. You can find them at West Marine.

If you have a good sandy bottom, Fortress Anchors are good. If you need a plow-type anchor, HydroBubble makes 2-piece aluminum/stainless ones that knock down flat. Both are very light and easy to handle.

Anyone who has ever owned a boat with a windlass knows they are no cup of tea either. You may not have to lug, but you still have to deal with it, the rope/chain, and they are almost always pinned in some way for safety so you have to haul your rear end up to the bow anyway.

I'd go with a fortress over a windlass any day.

if you have a good glass guy, maybe put an anchor loker in the bow, not hard, just make sure they know what they are doing.

I have seen a very slick one on the Euro Nor-Techs. they also have a windless on them. I don't have any pics but maybe you can go to there web site and find pics. There is a thread on OSO about them.

call me lazy but I just throw my 28# Bruce over the side and tie the anchor line to a rear cleat. I only use 6' of chain and of course this is in mild conditions.

I love mine were I boat its not real deep so I just leave the anchor in the rear and tie the line to the bow leaving enough slack.Throw the anchor over the side and then set anchor.Mine came with a heavy bag and I wrap a cheap life vest around it, fits in my side compartment

Box Anchor hands down. I keep mine in a duffel bag with a car fender pad wrapped around it. I throw the whole thing over my shoulder and schlep it up to the bow.

Come retrieval time, put the fender pad on the swim platform, and walk the line back the transom and pull the anchor straight up.
