Strange Weather On the water

Last week we had 2 to 3 feet foot of snow on the ground and 10 degree weather

This week we got 59 degrees and rain as a result the snow melted and caused floods here

When this happens the ice melts on the river going out to Lake Michigan and starts to stack up as it moves causing the flooding as it backs up

Also damaging docks on the way

I got a new camera for Christmas so I thought i would try it out

I once rode a sownmobile threw the ice on Gun Lake in January, don't ever want to do that again. My suit frooze before i could make it to shore....IT WAS COOOOLD!

What a shame about those docks, that will be expensive to repair and replace. I would think this happens a lot so I am surprised the docks don't come out in the winter. Just about everyone on the lake here takes theirs out.

All of our neighbors who left their docks in got a hard lesson last Spring. Our channel broke up and pushed about 2 mph for 15 minutes. Sounded like a freight train go'n thru. Wiped out every dock in it's path.

Most of them seem ok with small damage but a few took the full force and were decimated

30 years ago my parents and sisters moved to South Carolina
Later a brother followed down to SC
Then a brother went to work at NASA in Florida

One of my sisters moved to Atlanta and I am the lone one in my family in Michigan so yea a lot of things are telling me to go south

I was sitting in the hot tub two nights ago, snow coming down, looking at the lake thinking how cool this was

Then I got out of the tub, froze my tail off going into the house, and remembered how much I hate winter in Michigan

The docks at the new Marina Bay were ruined, maybe two or three left that are able to be fixed.

I'll take a flood any day over ice. We get more damage at our docks from ice than anything else.

Boatme, I have been watching everyday as the docks keep getting wrecked. The houses on Van-lopec street in GH township must have some major damage.

Just an hour north (Baldwin) we had lots of snow for great sledding this past weekend. Funny how that works!

You have big giant steel ones fo stepping out on that crap :)

yes, we are in slip #1 just inside on the left, with the gazebo and park on the river, nice pool,hot tub and club house.
