View Full Version : X-dim / propshaft depth

I realize they aren't the same thing though they get used interchangeably. On my little resin bucket the best I can measure the propshaft is 6.5" deep below the bottom of the little delta pad.

What is considered deep? How high can one realistically go? before needing a LWP? I have to take the transom assembly off anyways so I was thinking of going up 2"

Thoughts???

Are you going to run a good 4 Blade prop?

I ran a labbed 24 4blade mach sterndriver on it and the boat loved it. Boat ran 60 with a 3 blade mirage at 4600 with teh mach it did 60 at 4000 but would not pull higher. CArried the bow nice, and took the torque lean out of it.

When it goes back together I will try it but most likely wont be enough pitch. If the boat still really likes it, I will buy one with more pitch and send them both out so they can copy but with more pitch

I have found some math on the X dimension. Im right where merc says to start out at and can go up safely 3 inches before water pickup problems etc.

Wait a minute...

Making some assumptions here says if you're running 60 at 4000 RPM you must have something around a 1.5 gear? And around a 27 pitch prop?

If that's the case, with the same prop at the same slip, you should be running 80 at 5200 RPM.

And I like the up 3 inches part. Sounds like a much better starting point to me. I would probably try that, then put a 1 inch spacer in if it's too high.

All I know about the prop is that its SUPPOSED to be a 24. It has been heavily labbed and has a lot of cup. So plan is to raise the X 2" try the prop again, see what I get then swap motors.... Im gonna get good at swapping motors...

Are you doing that with a shorty or changing the transom?

Transom

So, you can raise it 2" now, and if it's still not high enough then add a shorty -1 or -2?

Thats the plan......

Well, I got the transom assembly and the exhaust tips off today. The tips put up an amazing fight, but in the end were defeated.

I am happy to say that this thing was put together well. The transom is bone dry and solid as a rock. some of the exposed wood where the tips when thru is still bright it was sealed so well. The rest of the week will be de and re rigging, figuring out better ways to run stuff and the glass work starts next weekend.,
