About 5,000 boaters hugged the coastline in Pinellas County to watch the 7th annual Clearwater Super Boat National Championship. Clearwater Beach was also full of spectators.One of the hardest thing to ignore is the loud sound coming from the engines. The boats run about 150 mph.

"You definitely hear it, it's loud," said Jesse Smith.

The sound is even more intense when you are riding inside one of the boats. We rode in a Miss Geico boat with Captain Gary Goodell. He said the Tampa Bay area is a perfect fit for these boat races.

"Tampa-Clearwater is probably one of the best venues in the country, location, major market, big airport, tons of hotels and the price is right," said Goodell.

The event brings about 150,000 spectators to the beach area in Clearwater.

" The experience itself is kind of surreal no matter who you are the second you see how fast these boats are on the water your breath is taken away," said driver Marc Granet.

He said the fans in the Tampa Bay area are very energetic.

"It's a water way life down here," said Granet. We've got some great boating talent in the area from the builders of the fishing boats to the performance boats in the area."

Livestream Statement On Recent Issues

Our race fans unfortunately experienced issues with the livestream this past Sunday which was out of our control. We received the following feedback related to the equipment and service issues. Again, we apologize for the buffering issues, this was out of our control. As you go back and replay the video, you can see the signal never dropped and the race playback is normal.

From Livestream… “On Sep Sunday 27th some Universal Streaming and HLS/HDS/DASH Ingest customers experienced high re-buffering and/or stream playback failures from approximately 15:00 UTC (11:00 am EST), Sep 27,2015 to 04:30 UTC, Sep 28, 2015.

Investigations have indicated the re-buffering and/or playback errors were caused by instances of mid-tier servers that went into a self-suspension state due to load issues. The triggering condition for the exact source of this increased load is still being investigated.

The problem was mitigated by changing the load balancing algorithm to reduce aggressive re-mapping of streams from mid-tier servers. The increased re-mappings had contributed to an increase in load due to content being replicated as streams were being published to multiple servers during the remapping transition. With fewer re-mappings, the aggressive load shifts subsided and allowed the system to stabilize.”
