One of the biggest power boating events in the nation is heading to the Clear Lake area this month - the eighth annual Texas Outlaw Challenge, scheduled June 17-21 in Seabrook, Kemah, Clear Lake and north Galveston Bay.

A thunderous roar will fill the air as more than 200 performance boats from coast to coast descend on the area, boasting a cumulative 320,000 horsepower, event owner and producer Paul Robinson said.

"The benefit we see is that it puts Clear Lake on the map every year, across the United States," said Robinson, a member of Texas Offshore Performance Powerboat Squadron. "The economic impact on our area is amazing."

The poker run is a popular draw for Outlaw Challenge boaters, who will bounce between several seaside communities, including Galveston. At each stop they'll draw a card, and the best poker hand at the end of the run gets a cash prize that is donated to charity.

The Clear Lake poker run is among the three largest in the United States, Robinson said. This first one takes place June 19, with eight stops in and around Clear Lake and Galveston Bay, followed by a party at Kemah Boardwalk.
