Two teenage girls were taken to the hospital after the inner tube they were riding hit a piling in a canal near the Intracoastal Waterway, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said.
There were five teen boys on a 2014, 19-foot Boston Whaler that was making a turn at about 20 mph when the throttle and steering locked up, according to one of the boys on the boat.
He said there was no time to cut power before the towed inner tube, carrying three girls, swung around and hit the piling injuring two of the girls, ages 14 and 15.
A fire boat responded to treat the injured. They were taken to Broward Health Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, fire officials said.
The boating accident happened around 7 p.m. Friday on the 2400 block of Sunrise Key Boulevard, fire officials said.
