The water and wind were almost perfect for the cats to put down some good numbers today. Today's star, Gone Again, was extremely impressive. In the 11 years they have worked on that boat to rebuild and improve it, they are putting on quite the display of Smokin' Speed!! First run today was an official 174 I believe, third run I heard was a 179 official speed with their GPS speedo pegged at 180.

An interesting day!!

In the first race of the day we ran with the SVL's tight for a couple laps then let them settle it between themselves. In the second race we got disqualified for running too close to the spectators on the wall during the parade lap!! Also in the second race Cat Can Do puked a motor and didn't finish. Geico blew a water line and destroyed an exhaust manifold first, burned a hole right through it which caused the motor to also be hurt. They did finish the race and are currently in first place to win the $18,000 first place prize. SOS Venezuela is in second and holding that coveted $10,000 spot while Ryan Beckley is in third hanging on to the possible $6000 pay day. In fourth for the $4000 is Simmons in Octane while Pirate is holding the $2000 fifth place spot. Sixth is Cat Can Do but it is unlikely they will be able to answer the bell tomorrow, and in seventh is Simmons Racing. Should be interesting tomorrow.....

A couple shots Terri took from way off to show how the water kicked up on Sunday. Pirate was having a heck of a ride. They broke their fill/empty for the ballast tank so could not compensate for the calm water in the straights in front of the hotels versus the rough in the north and south turns.

When I was talking with Scotty after they ran the testing on Friday, he said they had tried reversing the prop rotation to see if it would help. Then when they tested it they found out Marc had no control at all. The boat would just walk wherever it wanted to go....:eek:

Thanks, during Saturday's races the water was fairly calm so I was able to shoot some pics and video while doing the parade laps and while racing. Sunday was rougher, and I drove the boat, so I couldn't get any during the races. My video camera screwed up big time though....

Smokin' The Sound wraps up 10th year of high speed racing

If you were out and about in Biloxi on Sunday, you may have noticed the large crowds and the colorful boats taking over the coastline. The speed boats wrapped up a final day at the races for the 10th annual Smokin' the Sound.

The day started at 9 a.m. when the Race Village opened for the public to view the boats and interact with teams. Then, the races kicked off at noon and lasted until 5 p.m. For co-producer of Smokin' the Sound, Rusty David, the day couldn't have turned out better.

"I think it was definitely a success. The weather cooperated, the crowds were out on the beach and in the parking garage," said David.

This marks 10 years since the races started back in 2004. David said he has been on board since the beginning.

"Been here since day one, and Woody Bailey and I are co-producers of this race. We're excited about it," said David.

Bailey shared the excitement. He's the Executive Director of Smokin' the Sound. His hopes include another 10 years of races for the Coast.

"We've had a pretty good run, so we're going to keep going as long as we can go, so we're looking forward to it," said Bailey.

The races brought in almost 50 different boats, and offered a purse of $75,000 which is the biggest yet. The boats raced in four different classes, with about eight boats in the fastest class, including world championship team Miss Geico. The Miss Geico boat can reach top speeds of 190 mph.

The winner of the biggest prize in the Open Class at $18,000 was SOS Venezuela. Even though the awards ceremony was Sunday night, ending the event, the Smokin' the Sound team isn't done yet.

They're gearing up for another couple of days of fun on May 2 through May 4, for Smokin' the Lake in Gulfport. Boat crews will be invited to drag race against each other at Gulfport Lake just south of Seaway Road.

The boat started racing Factory One in 2000 as Twisted Chyx I believe.

i think factory 2 was the twin engines, not for sure. but i know it was been around for a while. wasn't it twisted stix before chyz? i guess there is something to be said about that, that is a long run.

I think Twisted Styx was Factory 2 and Twisted Chyx was factory 1. So maybe the 34 was, Simmons Marine, was Twisted Styx and the old Twisted Chyx was a 30 Phantom?

Now I have to start diffing to see which is which and if I'm backwards. I know they had both boats at the same time because Simmons has the trailer that he hauls Octane on the top of.

Old age getting to you again. Twisted Styx was a F-2 boat which is now Simmons p-4 boat. The Twisted Chyx boat was a F-1 boat.

You have any pics with the old Twisted boats both on the trailer? And where is the old 30 Chyx? Anyone know? I recall somewhere it was converted to outboards?
