We had another year of perfect weather. Couldn't ask for anything better. The air temp was warm enough for shorts, (away from the water it was hot). The water was perfect for a long poker run. Enough chop and swell to make it not boring, but calm enough so you didn't even think about cutting the run short. Gettting ready to take off. I had the pleasure of riding along with BBB725 in his 39 Nortech with triple Verado's again. Thanks Brooks!!

The Poker Run was started with three pace boats and three different groups, 15 minutes apart for each group.

The first group was boats that ran around 75 and under. Second group 75 to 100, third group over 100. Everyone had to follow the pace boats in single file at the speed limit of 55MPH. The water patrol watch very closely on Lake Charlevoix, so it's best to obey....

I think the others knew we were first to the first card stop last year. The big 5 banger took off to take an early lead. We thought we had the advantage because we knew where the card boat was hidden last year...

Well, the big Cig 5some was first, and about four others snuck in front of us. But, we had our lucky card drawer and were certainly assured of being in the money.

So we take off. Not pushing it quite as hard because we weren't first this year, but we're still in the top 10. Plus, we know a shortcut nobody else takes. Through the narrows to the south of the island scrubs at least a full mile off the run to the next stop. We'll sneak through and they'll never know what the heck happened!!!

Well, didn't quite work out as planned. While we're sneaking through the shortcut to the south of the island, about two miles away to the north that sneaky boat that was hiding behind the card boat makes his move. (Well, that's my version).

I was guessing about a buck fifty+. He was putting some serious distance on the rest of the fleet, and Tom's big new turbine was having trouble back in Charlevoix. I think he was probably first to all of the rest of the stops...

Well, after the first card stop, a few more of the faster boats from the other start groups also caught us. I think our lucky card drawer was talking about how to fit a couple more big outboards, like the big Cig's, on the back of the 39 Nortech. Not sure how much more room there is. I hinted about sneaking in the motor out of her Nissan, but she was not taking that to heart I believe...

So, back to dinner and card results.

The night before, at dinner, we were chatting with our friends who took third place in the run last year. Come to find out, they took second place this year in the stereo wars with their new Outerlimits. Cool, congrats, right. So, I made the comment they would have to win now because with the third and second, all that was left for the trifecta was first.

Well, they won first place! Congrats, but I think they must have stolen our lucky cardpicker's lucky cards. There can be no other logical explanation....
