NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Miami-Dade Fire Rescue divers emerged empty-handed from a South Florida lake's murky waters Thursday night after enduring stormy weather and strong currents in their search for a South Florida man who went missing after he was thrown into a lake while riding a personal watercraft with a group of friends earlier that day.

Friends and relatives of the missing boater sat and waited on the shore as rescue crews attempted to find him, a search that began just after 7 p.m.

A young witness who was riding alongside the victim said a large wave suddenly knocked his friend out of his watercraft. "We were riding jet skis, he was just riding, then I guess he hit a wave too hard or something, and he just fell off," said Daniel Baad.

Witnesses said the man called for help, then went underwater. He has not been seen since.

"Me and [my friend] Brandon jumped on the water," Baad continued. "We swam all the way out here. I was going under the water. I couldn't find him. I kept diving, I couldn't find him."

Rescue crews said the search has been particularly difficult because they have had to work in near darkness under inclement weather conditions, making it nearly impossible to see in the murky waters of a fairly large body of water. "As you can see behind me, it's very gusty, the wind at this time," said Miami-Dade Police Detective Robin Pinkard. "So it's hard for our divers, both with the current, making sure they're safe, too, and the weather is playing a big part in the recovery."

Police who were on the scene said that, because so much time has transpired since the victim fell into the water, they have shifted their efforts from a rescue endeavor to a recovery mission. They intend to continue their search for the missing man Friday morning.

:(

We had way too many on my lake for the holiday that should have been drowned
Most we A-holes who obviously had no interest in being safe, following the rules, or gave one $hi+ about anyone or anything besides themselves.
