I gotta say...
I agree with most of the commenters.
Regardless of where you stand, does seem like biting the hand.

If it wasn't for all the charity from the boating community (buying him lenses, flying him to races, putting him in a copter...) he wouldn't even have a "job".

He jumped on a political bandstand that was polar to his clientele.
Essentially biting the hand that feeds.
When he realized he was kicking himself in the teeth, and might jeopardize being given free tickets/travel/helo rides/new lenses and equipment to "do his job" (sounds like welfare, eh?) he took down his "Heil, hitler" rant.

He posted a pic of the president with the date 2008-2016 and got gangbanged. I saw the post and read his and other replys. His was response was "why all the hate? Can't we agree to disagree?"

The only "rabid response" was from you guys all full of hate and rage. I stay out of politics on boating forums (there are tons of political forums, take it there) for a reason but we still are allowed to have different political views in America. Just don't voice them in any way "even a simple photo of PODUS" to offend the arrogant loud mouth "Limbaughers" who will shout you down and attack you personally and professionally.

It appeared a little over half the country agreed and can see why you guys are foaming at the mouth. I felt the same way when Bush was re-elected a second term. Difference being, the response. Suck it up and move on to the next elections and change it. Maybe you'd all like to change the first ammendment as well?

Now attack me while I move on to boating stuff.

I didn't participate in it, but I did see it.
To express what happened without calling anybody names or getting all political about it while simultaneously suggesting that I don't get all political about it, here is what happened:

He exercised his first amendment right and expressed a strong opinion in support of the re-elected potus on his business facebook page. He had every right to do that. However, some others (don't know that it was anybody on this thread, but that has been insinuated) strongly disagreed, and also expressed their opinions, exercising their first amendment rights. Then it came down.

I believe that it was freedom in action. His freedom to do as he pleases, and other's freedoms to disagree.
Personally, I wasn't shocked at all. I do think that using facebook to express strong political opinions could invite different views. He has just as much right to express his views as anybody else. I think that some conservatives felt that it was hypocritical for him to earn his living off of conservatives. However, I personally don't know how he makes his living, so I won't go there. I do think that he has every right to post his views. I do not expect everyone to agree with him. Those people can decide if they want to support him or not. I am not his customer. I did not feel the need to jump on the bandwagon. I read and moved along. I have disagreed with his politics in the past. It is no longer interesting to me.

Bottom line: People have the right to express their views. Sometimes, others will disagree. Once in a while, the debate gets heated enough that it is better to not have it on a business page. My guess is that he chose to end it. Also his right.

Agree or disagree. That's how it works.

For the record underdog, I am not one of the people that posted some of the remarks on his FB page. You make a valid point that at least some of these discussions are more appropriate to the BAR section, not On The Dock.I believe that my characterization of his remarks in the past as "rabid" is accurate as indeed were many of the remarks on all sides of the exchange.

I would also say that a self employed person has a unique freedom to represent their political views to their business audience. They have the right to express whatever they want, and suffer any costs or reap any benefits that may result.

I would suggest that while it is their right, some may wisely choose not to alienate 50% of the marketplace.

I would also suggest that to a large degree, people know what they are doing when they post strong political stuff, and that there is a certain amount of trolling or looking for a reaction.

Finally, I would suggest that if this thread about it really needed to be posted, that it should have been moved to the bar.
It is not boating related.

It's hard to know who exactly is being called out, since it was done as a broad sweeping generalization against everybody.

I'm in investor relations for a small public mining company. Despite being in an "evil" industry, several of my biggest investors are liberal Obama supporters. I keep my mouth shut if our conversations turn into politics.
