Starting up Tomorrow, Good Luck!

Coniston Power Boat Records Week is the only event in the powerboat racing calendar to bring together all classes of boat. From tiny hydroplanes, through inshore circuit racers to the largest offshore boats, entry is open to all.

The most famous drivers to take part in record attempts in the past have been Sir Henry Segrave, Sir Malcolm Campbell and Donald Campbell.

Coniston, the ‘spiritual’ home of record breaking, since the Campbells, is most welcoming to Records Week and looks forward to their return this year. Drivers, support crews, officials, families and spectators are always welcome to enjoy the beautiful Coniston area, surrounded by its spectacular mountain scenery.

What’s in store for 2012?

2011 Coniston Records Week saw a total of 10 new World Records set and 23 British Records achieved from 31 October – 04 November.

The 41st Records Week saw Ben Jelf (Maidstone, Kent) become Britain’s youngest World Speed Record holder when he achieved a speed of 43.11mph in the GT15 Class at just 11 year’s old. But this year he’ll be back for more as his record was beaten at the beginning of October by Sweden’s Jakob Elisson who achieved a speed of 43.93 mph leaving Ben with some work to do.

From the smallest boat to take to the water at Coniston to the largest - Powerboat enthusiasts are in for a real treat this year as Peters & May Racing bring the first-ever Unlimited Hydroplane to Coniston to set a new British record as the Unlimited Racing Group’s “U-11 Peters & May” comes to Britain to make history and hopefully search for a new World Record the boat will be piloted by co-owner JW Myers.

Coniston Records Week (November 5-9) is the only event in powerboat racing to bring together all classes in the sport; from the smallest hydros, through inshore circuit racers to the largest offshore boats. And this year, speed freaks from around the world will be treated to the first appearance ever of an Unlimited Hydroplane plying English waters.

JW Myers
The Unlimited Racing Group’s “U-11 Peters & May” will makehistory as the first-ever Unlimited Hydroplane entry at Coniston, and will set a UK National Speed Record for the class piloted by co-owner JW Myers.

URG’s Aaron Salmon, at 20 years of age, will be helming the R102 trying to break the O350 world record of 113.25 mph (182.5 km/h) set in 1995 by American Sean Livingston.

Both drivers will be competing while coming off the injury list. Myers damaged his shoulder during the Detroit Gold Cup in July, which sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Salmon broke his back in a crash last October while trying to set a D Hydro Kilo record.

176.11 isn't too bad, congratulations!!!!

By Harry Gatjens

The Edmonds-based Miss Peters and May unlimited hydroplane on Monday morning set a record for the fastest propeller-driven boat ever to run in England.

Our local hydroplane, driven by co-owner J.W. Myers, ran a kilo straightaway record of 176.11 MPH in near-freezing temperatures in Coniston, just north of London.

Peters and May, the hydroplane’s sponsor, is headquartered in England and decided to have the boat attempt to set a record at Coniston, which has an annual records week for all classes of boats. This is the first year that a turbine-powered unlimited hydroplane has appeared.

Co-owners Scott and Shannon Raney flew to England late last week to make sure everything was prepared for the record attempt. Both the Raneys and Myers were all smiles after the run.

The boat now goes back into a transport ship for a trip to Doha Qatar for the final race of the season will be held in January.
