2009 POWERBOAT P1 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP CALENDAR ANNOUNCED

The Powerboat P1 World Championship announced its provisional calendar for the 2009 season, with a host of new venues joining some returning favorites. New race hosts Bahrain, Turkey, Sweden and possibly Ireland, will line up alongside well-established venues Malta, Portugal, Spain and Italy in what is planned as an expanded seven-round schedule.

The season starts in Bahrain in the Middle East in late March, with a six-week break before the second race in Malta, which will celebrate its sixth anniversary on the Powerboat P1 calendar.

Turkey, as a new addition, takes a mid-June slot and adds to the Powerboat P1 World Championship’s expanding mix of countries. The championship then returns to Portugal in early July.

Sweden becomes another exciting new host nation as the Powerboat P1 series visits Scandinavia for the first time in August, while either Ireland, another new venue, or Spain, which hosted a highly successful first-ever event in 2008, will host the penultimate round of the season.

Italy, the country which launched the 2008 Powerboat P1 campaign, takes a new slot in the calendar as the season-finale in September.

Greece and France have been allocated slots as reserve venues with more information to follow as the season gears up for the New Year.
