Went out with a bunch of my fellow racers today to do some testing on one of the speed run snomobiles. Actually, it's a dragster my buddy built from scratch. We were doing some testing before heading to Minn in a few weeks to try and set a new speed record on snow.
632 cu. in. twin turbo, on alky pushin over 3000 hp. Now, THIS is my kind of snowmobiling !!! ;)

Looks like it doesn't hook up very well.

Somewhere in the 190's. Lookin to top 200 in a few weeks, and that'll make the record book.

What keeps the nose on the ground to keep it steerabe?

1000 ft.

There is no way to keep the nose down. Before the run, we set it on the ice, aiming it where we want it to go, then hope one track don't bite better than the other and have it start to drift during the run. If it does drift, the driver has to peddle it to get the nose down and correct it. Right now, there's an extra 67#'s in the nose. Before the wheelie bar, about 3-400 ft. down, the nose went up about 4-5 ft in the air. :willy_nilly:
Weather permitting, we'll be doing some testing again this weekend.
Yesterday, there were about 50 race sleds out there. Christmas tree on the starting line, and radar guns at the 660' finishline. Some REAL fast stuff there. Alot of 1000's and 1100's, WOW can those thing get it on !!! Almost makes me wanna get the ol' Polaris 660 race sled out of hibernation, clean out the mothballs, and freshen up the motor and have a lil fun. :cheers2:

I was at the speed run sunday at Sunset Lakes in manhatten and saw the turbo cat get wrecked. Very sad to see it happen! From what I heard the driver ended up with a leg injury. The sled was wrecked bad.

Happened around 11 or so in the am. I think the driver took a car ride to the hospital. They towed the sled back and loaded the sled in the trailer. Every inch of it seemed twisted from the front bumper to the rear of the tunnel. I was only there til about 12. I am bummed I missed the drag sled.

Drag sled coming out this weekend?

Yes, saturday probably about noon we'll get to the lake. They had a guy out there today plowing the snow for some passes. They're gonna have Paul do the driving, and if he can't get a grip on it, then I think they're gonna have J.C drive it and get ready for the speed runs. It'll be interesting. They're supposed to call me when they're getting ready to leave the shop, should be around 11:00.

The guy that flipped that sled last sunday, was a good friend of the guy that I was there with over the weekend. He was telling me about it today.

Top notch crew everyone was with the speed run sled. They had some minor set backs but insisted on having my kid hop in to take some pics.

Tooks pics after. I got there to late to see it run. We were peeking are heads thru the plastic windows of the tent and they invited us in.

I at least was able to watch the little z120 make a 86 mph run.

I was in the tent after it went through the snow embankment and ripped off the fender. There was nothing that could be done to make another run, as you must've seen for yourself, the whole left side suspension was bent and the shock mount was broken. Right now, JC has it all apart and is fabricating a whole new design for the track.
The computer showed that the shock sensor went "dead" from too much movement causing it to break off. Then it hooked left and went through the snow barrier tearing off the fender and bending the $hit out of a whole lot more suspension components.

The computer showed it reached 119 mph @ 200 ft. right before it turned and hit the snow embankment. I'll keep you posted on the updates and progress of whats happening. I usually go to the shop every few days or so.
