COME ON .............NO WAY............FROM LAST WEEK TO THIS DAY ? TELL THE TRUTH !

The original picture was taken by Mike Ledford in April on Lake Murray where I have a lake house. I live in Conway, SC. I pulled the boat home last Sunday from Lake Murray and put it in my shop in Conway, SC. He printed the wrap on Monday, let it cure on Tuesday, laminated it Wednesday afternoon, prepped the boat and started the install Wednesday evening and had both sides mocked up and partially hung on the boat Wednesday night by 10 p.m. On Thursday afternoon they completed the starboard side and yesterday morning they completed the port side. We took pictures at about 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon. Have plenty of witnesses to attest to the time line.

My son, started his own vinyl graphic business when he was 14 years old. He was one of the first to do vinyl wraps when it got started some years back, concentrating mostly on commercial applications and race cars. He sold that company when he was 27, moved to Lake Norman, went into retirement and has not done anything for 3 years. He finally got tired of that and his no compete clause of the buyout has expired, so he has returned to Conway, SC, geared up with both wide format printing equipment and direct to garment apparel printing equipment, and it's like he was never gone. This is the 3rd boat wrap he has done since April 1. I know there are plenty of other graphic desingers and sign makers represented here, so I'll just leave it at that for now. People in this part of the world know who he is and where to find him.

Ginger, I think you might know Sparky Olsen. He is a boat guy, builder, racer, from Michigan and has relocated to Lake Murray. He was the last person I spoke to on Sunday May 16th in my driveway at Chapin, SC before I pulled out with the boat heading to Conway, SC.

Ginger,
Custom boat painters are tremendously talented and do unbeliveable work but this is why they are becoming a thing of the past! Computer software, printer and ink technology has progressed leaps and bounds in the last ten to fifteen years. That it is why now it takes a shorter amount of time to do easy jobs like this. This projoect was a side job for my father and we didnt get in a big hurry to do it. It was printed, laminated and installed in 4 evenings while my installer and myself do run a business doing large format printing, commercial signage, and wraps by day. The slowest part of the whole job is the time that the eco solvent ink printed vinyl has to out gas 24hrs at a minimum before lamination. We enjoyed ourselves while doing this "no way" project for my father and we have no reason to lie about any part of the job and or the process. I would be glad to do one of those Skaters for you as well, it may take a whole week or two to do a full wrap on one of those! Lance Kelly

I watched an outfit in Miami do a Cigarett. All the did was clean the suface down befor wraping. The Cig had the original graphics and were never feathered in with the clear coat if any was used at all. It looked allright from a distance but upclose you could see every detail in it. When they did the transom, I was not impressed at all. With out taking external steering cylinders off and cutting one time, they just wherevre they thought was right and everything showed. There was other hardware on the transom and the same thing was done. There was many things that could be done prior to do the transom to make it right. One thing they did do was remove the rub rail, center grab rail in the middle of the deck and the engine hatch coushion which made it look alot better. Have'nt had a chance to see the final product to see the overall finish. With that said I hope your son does better than what some compinies would do.

not trying to start anything but you may want to ask him where he got his inspiration from. And my name is Clayton Tacket if you have any questions I will be happy to give you my phone number so we could discus this . The design is basically a take off of a boat called spot light that was Bajas poker run boat . like I said it looks good he added some other textures to it.

not trying to start anything but

The moment you made the insinuation that someone had copied something of yours you were "trying to start something".

Obviously, I'm taking up for someone who does not frequent this or other boating websites, but goes about his business and produces work that he designs himself with his own inspiration and I doubt he would know you or your work from Adams housecat, and while you may be a legend in your own mind, yesterday was the first time I have heard of you.

You or anyone else that does true design work get inspirations from everything they see, do, and dream. He sees flaws in his own work that myself or any other layman would never see and is never satisfied until he gets it the way he wants it. People in our area come to him to get "original" design work created and then produced. The Baja that you lay claim to is an excellent example. The design for the bow was drawn in 3 different versions, and the customer decided he liked one of the other renderings better so the bow graphics are entirely different today from what was initially pictured.

You may have done something similar, I don't know, and could care less.

What I do know is that from an early age my son exhibited a natural artistic talent and that he started drawing as soon as he could hold a pencil. By age 14 he opened his own sign business, drew logos and lettered vehicles, race cars, go karts, etc. Instead of playing sports he came home from school and made decals and did graphic design for racers every night til bed time. When he graduated from high school he went to college and studied art, while still operating his sign business and after college he operated a full blown design and graphic art business that grew and prospered and he was doing developing and doing wraps when it was in its infancy. He did so well at it that at age 27 he was bought out by a major company. He had a 3 year no compete clause which he honored. When his contractual obligation expired he bought more equipment and started a new company. During his 3 year vacation, when he did work, it all revolved on designing new graphic schemes for boats and race cars.

That you did something similar is commendable and given that my son's work dates back to longer than your business has existed (according to any info I can find about your company), now that you have become a prominent figure in my life, I wonder where you got your inspiration from.

I don't apologize for telling the truth.

unfortunately you are correct and we have had people do the same thing I talked with Lance today its all good. Vinyl is the future from a cost point people want more for less and if you get tired of the design pull it off and put another design on.

Oh, and just fyi to anyone considering using Lance for anything:

As I posted previously, I spoke with Lance yesterday about doing a wrap for the Jet Ski that would match my boat. After reviewing the pics I sent, he didn't feel confident that the wrap would install easily & correctly without having the ski there for him to do it himself.

While I'm bummed that I won't be able to do the project with him, I thought it was really cool of him to be honest about what his concerns were, and that he'd rather not charge & send me something that he isn't 100% positive will look perfect.

We all know, there are probably MANY other graphic shops out there that would have gladly taken my money, & sent their product anyway, regardless of whether it was going to fit properly or not. I could have ended up with a real mess on my hands, but Lance takes enough pride in his work to have turned down the job, instead of trying to make a quick buck by putting out a less than perfect product.

So, thanks a LOT Lance, and this post is my promise I made to you, that I would put the word out regarding the appreciative way you do business! :cheers2:
