View Full Version : What's your idea of the perfect PERFORMANCE boat?

GENERAL LEE

I capped "PERFORMANCE" just so that the popular center console's aren't referenced in this particular thread. I think they're sweet boats as well, but not true performance boats.

I think I'd have to personally vote for either a Cigarette 39 Unlimited with 700's, or maybe a similar sized Outerlimits with 700's? I like the Nortech vee's, but just haven't grown into loving the 39 model they build yet.

Obviously I love cats, and plan to have one well into the future, but if I had to have the perfect performance boat, a vee would probably be the way to go for me. http://smiliesftw.com/x/truestory.gif (http://smiliesftw.com)

Mine would be a 33 PP , just because its all about performance , fast , good looking ...and being 33 easy to slip by my self at all times !!!!!! :cheers2:

Brandon the 39 with 700's is a great boat. Enough power to be fun but, not so much to be a burden. It would be my pick if I could afford it. Clean, classic lines.

A 38 Fountain fever ranks high on my list too.

An Outerlimits SV43 with 700's. Sit down boat, bad ass looking, removable canopy, 120mph, great in the rough and has a usable cabin! Here's one with 1075's for sale.

I think that ultimately I would like to end up in a reliably powered 50 Nortech V.

I will admit though that the BIG Cats really draw me. Like that 55' that is in the OSO classifieds. It has a useable cabin and a bed which is important. http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifieds/2008_mti_55_mega_cat-o30614-en.html

Sexy shape, luxurious cabin with creature comforts such as A/C, V-Berth, Head, etc, plus it has a deep cockpit and will do 100mph with 700s.

Man, you've got that right. http://smiliesftw.com/x/werdrun2.gif (http://smiliesftw.com)

I was just curious to see of anyone had though about which boat would have the MOST options they would want, all in one boat.

I think that NXT/700 package is a universal choice, no matter which brand of boat you put them in. 38+ to 42ish length, is a pretty good size for towing, storage, using by yourself, or having a bunch of friends join you out there, without having a total hoss to deal with when you don't have 5-6 people to help out.

There are just SO many nice ones out there these days, that I wondered what everyone else's taste would be these days, given the choice. :cheers2:

It will do around 108 with 700's and thats in a big 42ft boat.

Up here the issue is size:sifone:.

Seriously, the big lake can get very rough. When we are out in the 24, you can get the holy crap beat out of you when it kicks up.

If you are out in anything 26' or larger, all of Spring Lake becomes No Wake. Takes forever to get around. So, it's nice to take the 24 vs one of the bigger ones if that's the destination. And it is a very popular one.

Trailering the 39 or 43 is a pain. Have to worry about the beam.

a 42 OL legacy with 850's i like the performance with reliable power (and can run 87 if i get stranded) center steer, walk around deck, flat transom (so i can see the hardware) side by side bolster with a 3rd drop in, rear triple bolsters, extended sunpad, that about sums up the one boat for the rest of my life wish list...... now multiple boats 388 skater with merc 1300's 36-40 CC trip outboards 45-50 express cruiser would make a sweet dock...and a small 110 mph flat bottom or rocket outboard for quick morning blast

That's a pretty close list to what my goal is, but, small changes....

43 or 46 Black Thunder instead of the Express Cruiser. No way an Express Cruiser will hit 100.....

Some kind of Race Boat instead of the 388 Skater. (Unless it is actually a race boat). On my budget, looking at SVL's because of the ease of towing to sites, the single engine being less on maintenance, and the competition and comaraderie in the class.

ANd I'm leaning towards getting rid of the 24 and getting an aluminum 24 Sprint Jet Boat for that early morning blast. (Took a ride in Oregon once. Driving like an Aussie sprint racer is crazy fun...) They will go in 4" of water.....

I'm not partial to an BRAND, but I'd say the Cig 39'/700's has become the benchmark for what a great boat should be.

Says who? All the marketing money and everyone that drools Cig? What can a Cig 39/700 do that the other 10 or so options can't? Why would I spend at least $500k just to be like somebody else?

I'll take an Active Thunder comparatively equipped. Or for the same money as that Cig, Pat "might" put together a 43' with Merc 1300/ASDs. :cheers2:

What makes the 39 more desirable than a 42x? I think i would rather have a 42 or 46x. Since i cant afford either, might as well add 7-11' in length to what i have now.

Haha, I would rather have a 46 than the 39 as well, but in my own criteria for the thread, I had storage & transporting the boat as a bullet point. The 46 would take a big dock, big lift, & big truck, where the 39 would require a fairly average model of the three. The 39 running the 700's also runs comfortably over 100 as reliable as you could ask for.

I'm not sure I'd want the 42X over the 39 Unlimited. The 42 is no doubt a nice boat, I just think I like the 39 a little better. http://smiliesftw.com/x/nose.gif (http://smiliesftw.com)

Assuming for a minute we're going to shed the towing/launching/rack-storing issues, the ideal boat for me would be in the mid-40' range and have diesels and a bow thruster. It would cruise all day in the mid-60's and use fuel at about half the rate as gas. Top out in the low-80's.

For ease of towing, storage, overall reliability and looks I would have to say either a 39 Cig TG w/ 700's or the OL Super Leggera w/700's. I love the canopy boats but if you are alone and pulling into a dock the stand up boats make it much easier.

Always thought a 34' Advantage Party Cat with 725's and Indy's would be a fun perfromance/party boat. With this power its fast enough and big enough to poker run, holds plenty of people, huge stereo possiblities and has a bathroom onboard. Still throwing the idea around for the lake boating and few Pacific Runs I do.
