Well, THAT ought to put to rest any questions about whether or not these engines have custom crankshafts...

Cool how the put the crankshaft position wheel in the middle of the crank, where it's quietest.

Lookin' good as usual.

Curious, with the mention of the crankshafts who does the crankshafts and what material?

Do all the engines get torn down like this or are only the 650s built on the line at Conner?

650's @ Conner. Forged Steel from SMI.

The quality of these parts is fantastic.

I havent seen the old block to compare, but the new piece is a work of art.

So the main bearing caps are 4 bolt, 2 inside and 2 exterior? Never seen that before. Cool stuff.

Not sure, but I think externally side bolted mains is an expansion control technique as much as a strength thing.

I would guess the caps are ductile iron.
Expansion with alum caps in an aluminum (alloy) block would be too much and the engine would lose oil pressure when hot- iron main caps helps maintain oil pressure.

I wonder how big you can bore it?

In that first picture, it looks like the steel strip alongside the crank is a oil scraper? I see that it's notched just enough to clear the rods...

So - Are the pistons Mahle? Or are they "other"?.....

Correct on the scraper, and "undisclosed" is the word..............
