New Pit Area Wet/Dry

We have moved the pit areas and racers village south to the new Marina area. We now have direct access in the no wake zone. Inside docks on space A status and the tunnels leading directly to the beach viewing area. The construction was just completed and an official site plan is coming out very soon.

Additionally June 12th is National Marina Day and this Marina won the National Marina Award so the party on Saturday and Sunday just got a lot BIGGER.

Remember this is not Just a Race; this is not a Poker Run.
This is an Offshore Powerboating Event unlike any other.
National T.V. Live Simulcast, and Offshore Powerboat Party in the shadow of Thunder Boat Row!

We also just met with the South Florida Historical Society and Museum and some pretty cool stuff coming.

Safety & Tow Assistance:

Action Marine Towing.
A TOW BOAT US Franchise holder.
An unlimited Tow Boat US membership will provide free ASSIT towing from Bahamian coastal waters back to Miami. The tow company will be present and speak directly to all teams so the agreement, responsibilities, and obligations are clearly understood.

If required I will also provide a presentation so everyone understands the difference between assistance and salvage as defined by the regular tow agreement.

Additionally we have safety boats at 5 mile intervals. Dive rescue helicopters, (three Jet Rangers), and three fixed wing aircraft. One fixed wing flies logistics and low cover and the other two fly command and control to direct dive helicopters and medical boats to assist as required.

We also have VHF-FM high site capabilities through the Tow Boat company.

The Bimini Race Safety Management Plan is our highest single cost item.

For Closed Circuit Connection Directions

Here is what is required:
1. Video system or large screen television
2. Broadband connection to the internet. At least 1.5 meg/sec.
3. Laptop or workstation available to use during the race
4. PC to TV connection capability

Newer televisions and video systems will have the ability to connect directly to the video output of a computer. A simple VGA cable is all that is required. The computer should be a newer computer with significant amount of memory and a powerful CPU for best results.

Generally larger/newer bars and hotels will have the capabilities already built into their video system. Connecting to the race broadcast is as simple as getting online, browsing to the supercatracing.com web site and double clicking the live web video to view it full screen.

In some cases when an establishment does not currently have PC to TV connectivity and only has an older large screen TV, additional equipment will need to be purchased. An inexpensive work around is a piece of gear known as a PC-To-TV converter box. They sell for about $100-$150 at Best Buy or Radio Shack and are completely plug and play. It is as simple as plugging one end into the video output on the computer and then connecting the color coded RCA cable to the TV. You can then select the proper input on the TV remote control to gain access to the internet. I have not as yet run into any place that could not be connected.

In some cases a larger establishment has a large number of video monitors scattered throughout the nightclub. This is usually pretty easy to overcome. Most of these places will have a central video/equipment closet that contains all of the right equipment. Once again if there is not currently internet connectivity a simple converter box or cable can be added.

The technology for this is not only several years old but is also very very basic. I provide assistance either over the phone or visit in person the week of the race to verify connectivity. We are contemplating staying in touch with the advertisers throughout the race season. That way if an establishment wants to continue promoting offshore racing parties even if the race is not in their city they can do so. We can interact with them over the phone or by Skype during subsequent races. I would like to see a dozen or so accounts willing to continue participating with us from every city. We can then do broadcast shout outs, advertising and promotion for the following years race. Rather than being only a single race, they would have the ability to watch and participate with all of the races. Scheduling autograph signing parties with the racers at some places will give the fans a feeling of knowing the racers when they watch them race.

Welcome all racers and fans to the new "2010 OPA Offshore Racing Series Hosted by Geico".

http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/img/v5/p782627791-3.jpg

We are excited by all of the new teams that will be joining us this year for our 7 race series plus our very own worlds race in Orange Beach, Alabama. We are expecting large boat counts this year as it will prove to be one of the best power boat years of the century.

The first stop of our series is Ocean City, Maryland on Memorial Day weekend which is May 28th-30th.

All of the racers must send in their forms to Sunset Marina so that they know what size boats will be on their property and what rigs there will be onsite.

We are doing a shuttle again this year from the Parking Lot on the side of Sunset Marina. All cars will be expected to park there and take the golf cart shuttle to the Dry Pits.

All registration paperwork should be mailed out to OPA PO Box as instructed on the OPA website, so that all of the racers won’t have to wait hours in line.

Go to www.oparacing.org (http://www.oparacing.org) and go to Forms page for all of the information. Those of you that were mailed the Forms must send back the paperwork.

Anyone Registering that is not a New Boat this year will be charged a $100 Penalty Fee if you show up in person with the paperwork. This will help alleviate the registrars from being overwhelmed like they were last year.

You must also visit the OPA website for GPS information.
Anyone with an old J2 tracking unit will be grandfathered in.

We also will have Lifeline Safety Equipment at a Special OPA Rate and you must call Lifeline for the Trade In, Trade Up Program that he is offering. All lifejackets will need to be within a 3 year certification. Also, Lifeline is offering a Special on Full Face Helmets, Extra Large only, at $200 each. We would also like to thank Supercat Racing for their support of the OPA and look forward to all of their LIVE VIDEO feeds of the OPA circuit this year. You can visit www.SupercatRacing.com (http://www.SupercatRacing.com) for their new look.

Please be sure to go to OPA website www.oparacing.org (http://www.oparacing.org) to see the dates of all of the 2010 races this year. We look forward to seeing everyone this season and thank you for your support.
