US Navy frigate captures 5 pirates near Seychelles (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100401/ap_on_re_af/af_piracy)

NAIROBI, Kenya – Suspected Somali pirates fired on a U.S. Navy warship off East Africa early Thursday in what appeared to be a ransom-seeking attack on an American guided missile frigate, officials said.

The USS Nicholas returned fire on the pirate skiff, sinking it and confiscating a nearby mothership. The Navy took five pirates into custody, said Navy Lt. Patrick Foughty, a spokesman.

This Bad Boy was in KW this week, 47 knots in 14' seas, reportedly an anti-pirate ship.

Custody? Should have blasted the whole lot of them, now the Dems will want health care for them. Either that or they'll let them get back to business so they can tax their earnings.

What do you want to do today?? I have an idea, lets attack a warship with ak47's...

FAIL!

Taking prisoners?? should have hit it with a Phalanx, all that would have been left would be red tinted chopped fiberglass...

That's one of the prototypes of the navy's littoral ship program. They're designed to be light, fast, inexpensive and designed specifically to operate in shallower waters.

Anti-piracy, anti-terror and supporting special forces are the idea behind them.

why didn't they just blow the pirates up? see thats whats wrong with the government. just "capturing" pirates doesn't really send any messages, when you're blowing them to splinters that sends a little of one.

The first developmental prototypes were over $500 mil each, but they should be able to build them in the $350 mil range. Not cheap, but compared to a Ticonderoga-class AEGIS guided missile cruiser at a billion-five or a Ford-class carrier at $15 billion, it's not bad.

I think the one in Bobcat's pic is the Independence. The other one built by Marinette in Wisconsin is a monohull.
