Something like that almost happened to me when the top retaining ring came off the sea strainer and the boat filled up with water where the pumps could not keep up with the incoming water, did not show much on the gages(water pressure just a little lower)But when the oil pressure went to zero because oil pump belt came off, wasnt far from a travel lift....Hope all works out!..Can see another sea tow thread starting!....Bob

All set the Doc & me. Something around the starboard pickup let go is my guess. Water eventually overwellmed the bilge pumps. We will know more once the boat is brought back and taken out. Jumped on the Coast Guard boat once the rear vents went under. Boat was resting stern in sand nose sticking out as the picture shows.

What about wiring/rigging?

How is race and pleasure different?

alot less of it to replace, alot more simple rigging than messing with all the pleasure stuff. Everything in the engine compartment gets salt damage just from running the boat, the salt mist that runs through the vents into the engine compartment. Of course submersion is worse but its built for salt water running.

We came across them sitting a little bow high. We stopped and see what was going on, and as you can see they were taking on water. They're all fine. Nothing dramatic, just a breach letting in water. You're DEFINTIELY RIGHT
Tell me about it....

I unfortunately learned the hard way over the years... I guess you just never know when something is going to go wrong and it can happen at any time and to anyone. As they say, accidents happen!

My most recent misadventure happened a few years ago on a Huster coming home from NYC when the hull delaminated near the keel... It was a crazy day, I blew a drive in the Apache, a Nortech blew an engine, an OL blew a power steering hose and lost control and then the bottom.... And I have some video to show for it. ;) It was a crazy ride home, especially when we saw water level with and begin sloshing in the cockpit...it was a day to remember....:willy_nilly:
KG0DBLKPORk

Before that it was late 90's when the bottom of my Scarab delaminated coming into Pt. Pleasant inlet...:willy_nilly:

Both times we made it back without incident but always kept the boat movin!!:driving:

I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing but as the years go by I somehow have more stories to add to the list....:(

As a last resort you can pull an intake hose off one of the engines and fire it up...it's the best bildge pump you can get!! :)

Good luck getting back together GL. If you ever need anything let me know.

One thing I've learned over the years is DON"T try not to shut the engines down... Have someone drive the boat and peek in to see if you can see where the water is coming from...

:(

Those two raw water pumps on the engines can quickly become two massive bilge pumps. If you've got ball valves on your pickups. all you have to do is pull a hose- or pop the caps on the strainers.

As far as why it failed- maybe GL will fugure it out, but most likely the cause was destroyed in the damage. Sometimes it's a simple bump that makes a crack. At 120mph, that water is exerting some massive pressure. A little crack becomes a spot that lifts and then you have a barn door in a tornado. Or it could be dozens of other causes.
