Swiss court fines speeding millionaire $290,000
Jan 7, 10:47 AM (ET)

ST. GALLEN, Switzerland (AP) - A Swiss court has slapped a wealthy speeder with a chalet-sized fine - a full $290,000.
Judges at the cantonal court in St. Gallen, in eastern Switzerland, based the record-breaking fine on the speeder's estimated wealth of over $20 million.
A statement on the court's Web site says the driver - a repeat offender - drove up to 35 miles an hour (57 kilometers an hour) faster than the 50-mile-an-hour (80-kilometer-an-hour) limit.
Court clerk Heidi Baumann-Becker said Thursday the unidentified driver can appeal the decision, handed down in November, to the Swiss supreme court.
The Blick daily newspaper in Zurich reported the fine was more than twice the previous Swiss record of about $107,000.

We can't let our politicians find about this. They'd love the idea.

He makes a good point. Finland is the worst. That would put them at the top of the Euro-Weenie scale also.

I know the UK looks at your income when deciding certain traffic fines. I wouldn't live in a country that has that much access.

Down here, I support the local Judges reelection campaign activities and likely would see 30 or 60 days deferred judgement, cost, probably $150.00). Not that I have had a ticket in a long time.:sifone:

I read this the other day- at first I was thinking WOW, but the more I've thought about it, the more sense it makes.

$50 wouldn't deter me from doing 20MPH over the limit all the time, weather and vehicle/pedestrian traffic permitting of course. $500, reckless driving and a few points does. Even at $20M- $290K may make him think a bit. Repeat offender and he was 35MPH over the limit- not like he was just speeding a little.

Talking about access...
At least the access is public and not like your country which has surveillance cams allover and security lists of issues you wouldnīt even think of...

What's high-tech about manufacturing a cloth made of plastic strands after the inventor's patent expires?

High tech is creating a chemical compound that can change the world and save lives. Thanks DuPont Chemical!

This message is hidden because MikeyFIN is on your ignore list.

Try it, you'll like it!

Think about what the point of punishment is - deterrence. I think 1% of your net worth is a darn strong deterrent.
