View Full Version : I'll take Landmarks and Geography for....

Scarab KV

My job has me traveling through areas where other members live, so I figure I might as well have a little fun with it.
Lets see how well you know your surroundings when they're out of your environment.
I'll post pics from my cell of structural and geographic landmarks. Could be city skylines, signs, buildings, bridges, etc and you answer in a question format beginning with" What is or Where is"
Some will be pretty easy, while others will be teasers meant to trip you up. Look for clues in the pic combined with clues from my posts of my current travels to find the answers.

Example

50533

"What is the Statue of Liberty" or "Where is NYC"

Have fun with it:)

Veterans Memorial Skyway. I think.

It's the design that shouldn't be used this far north on account of that whole "huge chunks of ice that fall off and down onto the inside lanes of traffic because ice forms so easily on the structure" design. :)

That bridge freaks me out. The physics just don't work for me.

West By Gosh Virginia is where my dad is from. We went white water rafting on the New River. We got out right under that highest bridge in the country. I forget the name of it. Dad said he never saw a deer once while growing up. They had deer season closed from sometime in the 1920's until sometime in the 1990's. The country boys killed them to eat. Dad said he had fresh meat once a year when they killed a hog, otherwise it was salted meat (no refridgeration).

Looking north northeast from I-80/90 westbound.

That bridge, I've always wondered about.
It's at approx. the same height as 80/90, and way to high for the need for a swing bridge in that shallow water (maybe 10-12 feet at best). And then of course 80/90 is fixed, and past 80/90 it quickly goes down to 8' and then 5 foot of water. If you're heading down to P-burg (used to head down there occasionally and walk up to the bars (CASA BARON, John?:sifone:)), you have to kind of snake through some areas that may be as little as 3' of water, and that's about as far West as you'd ever attempt to travel on that section of the river.

Yeah. By the time you get past the 80/90 bridge all bets are off. The rock structures start. But once upon a time..... when it was deeper... they got some pretty big boats to Ft. Meigs. Now when you cross the I-475/US23 bridge at some times of year you can see the rock shelf under the water like a reef. That's why all those Walleye fisherman can be in waders in the middle.

Never made a steady habit of run'n FL. If produce wasn't running, you weren't get'n out. Would have to bounce all the way into GA to find freight. With the influx of empty trucks in GA, the brokers would start cut'n the rates up there.
Just a nasty cycle

Never made a steady habit of run'n FL. If produce wasn't running, you weren't get'n out. Would have to bounce all the way into GA to find freight. With the influx of empty trucks in GA, the brokers would start cut'n the rates up there.
Just a nasty cycle

There is a produce inspection building in the middle of US 19 at Fanning Springs, Fl. All trucks, including pick ups are supposed to stop there. I stopped once in my dually, and they guy in the shack looked pizzed, and wave me on through. There is also one on Hwy 27 where it crosses the Suwannee River. Branford I think is the name of the town. They serve no purpose whatsoever. Just another way Dixie County can bring in money. It's one of the poorest counties in Florida. When your main industry is prisons, it doesn't speak highly of you. There are only three traffic lights in the entire county.

Have to be honest. I had to work for that one. Looked familiar as hell, but couldn't place it right away. I knew from the peaked saufet that it wasn't a TN, WV or PA tunnel, cause they're all flat. I remembered from earlier posts awhile back that you guys had gone to a PR some place. I finally went to the other site and searched hammer's post and found Emerald. Once I knew which way you were head'd I remembered Arkansas. lol...not exactly known for their vast number of tunnels. I remembered it was called Bobby something, but google filled in the blank for me:)
