what do they look like?
are they similar to the maximus?
I would be interested in a pair of L & R 28 pitch.

ThrottleUp Props

They are semi-cleavers. The Maximus is a High Rake Round Ear prop...the only thing similar is the Hydro P5-X.

Don't you mean the regular P5........not the P5-X which is similar to the Maximus???

ThrottleUp Props

Correct... I was stating the Maximus IS similar to the P5-X.

The P-5 is an out of the box semi-cleaver, non-CNC propeller. Sorry if that was confussing.

Do you have them in smaller sizes, like 24 or 25 pitch? I'm running 26 bravo 1's now and I imagine these would need to be smaller in pitch? Are the CNC'ed props basically labbed out of the box because of the precision of CNC?

ThrottleUp Props
12-17-2009, 11:09 AM
I am sorry the smallest pitch made is a 28P in Stern Drive props. We do manuacture our outboard overhub props as small as 25P. Our SM props as small as 28-29P in 5B and 6B configurations.

If you are running high rake props there are no CNC versions available to date.

You are also correct in that CNC propellers are machine finished props, tight tolerances vs lab finished props from stock castings.

Julie

ThrottleUp Props

I also have some SM props:

5B Speed Master Props:

16.25 x 36P 5B 18 deg 650 HP RH & LH
16.25 x 40P 5B 16 deg 650 HP RH & LH
16.25 x 39P 5B 18 deg 650 HP RH & LH
16.50 x 35P 5B 18 deg 850 HP RH & LH

I will let these go, at a significantly reduced cost as well!

Well, with that said... I'm running a 28 Donzi ZX (twin step). I read about the P5's and they sound appropriate for a step bottom boat. In your opinion, do you think I could swing a 28 pitch considering it is CNC'ed Vs my stock Bravo 1's?

ThrottleUp Props
12-17-2009, 11:30 AM
What engine package?

If you running the 26P Bravo I props (which are really 25P) at the appropriate RPM then no the 28P props would run about 750 RPM less, s they would be 3 inches taller in pitch and the additional blade. I am afraid they would be to tall for you.

5B RH & LH : 15.0 x 30P
5B RH & LH : 15.50 x 32P

5B RH 15.25 x 29P
5B RH 15.50 x 33P
5B RH 15.25 x 30P

Thanks for asking!

Motions can perform well with Semi-cleaver Propellers. The owner of Motion recently called me a little and we discussed this. Your 36P props are not a real efficeint pitch, for Bravo I propeller series. I would think you would benefit greatly from semi-cleavers. But, before jumping in can you tell me the year of the hull and your performance data with the Bravo I props, please?

Its all going so WELL, George! Thanks for asking.

The Gold Coating on the props is a PVD coating that has titanium in it. This is what give it it's gorgeous color. PVD is short for "Particulate Vapor Deposition".

Happy Holidays to both of you George!

Can you give us the formula on dropping pitch for adding a blade?

.

Yes, that is indeed the formula, if you are currently running Bravo 1 props. Bravo 1 props are one inch less than is stamped, on the propeller.

When you add a blade you will reduce one inch of pitch to compensate for the increase drag of the additional blade.

So... if you are running Bravo I props and want to add a blade you will reduce 2 inches of pitch.

If you are running propellers other than Bravo 1 prop then simply reduce one inch of pitch when adding a blade.

Can you give us the formula on dropping pitch for adding a blade?

Here you go:

When you add a blade you will reduce one inch of pitch to compensate for the increase drag of the additional blade.

The only exception to the rule, is if your running Bravo I props.

Julie

is it bling or does it have a practical purpose? and what does it cost...

Its got SERIOUS Bling factor !

We are still testing the propellers to determine in a scientific manner the benefits.

But, I can tell this to date. The PVD coating makes the propellers STRONGER! So, this of course would allow us to go thinner and with the PVD we can re-gain some of this strength back. This of course means greater Durability and Life Expectancy, for the propellers. Because we all know that thin is fast.....but we also know that thin propellers have a shorter life expectancy!

The coating depends upon the propeller style. SM are an additional $1000.00 each for the PVD application.

Thanks.

Hey Bor,

High rake props are really best for your hull....however if you feel you can afford more stern lift, then we can look a your data. Traditionally, Older Conventional Vee Bottom Hulls, appreciate the high rake, as the propellers will help to carry the bow (since you have no steps to assist).

Hey Julie,

I have a DCB F32 with Teague 800's EFI . Imco SC drives.

Current props are 4 Blade Bravo Stamped 37 Pitch. They are labbed. I purchased the boat used, the props were supposedly done by Merc Racing.

The boat I am told has done 137 with these props. I have been to 130 with stick left. The boat rolls over fairly well but I am thinking a 5 Blade prob may be better for crusing.

Thinking about maybe a 34 5 blade. Would any of these props you have be suitable.

Thanks,

Jeff

You are running the appropriate propellers for our hull, a conventional deep vee hull. These hulls tend to appreciate high rake props...they really help with the bow lift.

Your hull really appreciates high rake props, like the Bravo 1 or the Hydromotive P5-X. The semi-cleavers cleavers make it a real bear to plane. I would try to find some P5-X props in all honesty.
