The time has come. I know two different hulls, but quality vs quality? The Velocity has a 496ho will do a solid 72 or 73 on gps. The Savage has a 525 and will run about the same. has anyone here owned both? I know the Savage will handle big water much better just wanting all the info before I pull the trigger as this saga has been going on for a couple of months now I have all the pieces in place to purchase. The Savage is a 2006 the Velocity is an 08. any info will be helpful. I will be doing most of my boating in sw fla the Gulf and down in the Keys. Thanks

Velocity has been around for a long time and the boats are designed and built by Steve Stepp who is an ex-racer. It is later model and performs much better (according to you) with less power. Sounds like the cost of ownership will be a good savings in the long run with gas and insurance. Good luck in your decision, I don't think you can go wrong.

The 2006 AT will depreciate less. The biggest depreciation generally happens in the first 3 years, then its starts to level off. My vote is for the AT for a lot of reasons, but I'm a little biased. I really just don't like the lines of the Velocity. Its faster on flat water because its lighter and has the pad. That is also what makes it not ride as good in rough water.

:iagree:Thanks Griff, Thats pretty much the same thing I told him.
Ofcourse I am very biased because the A.T. he wants is my old boat and I would love to see him get it.
Come on dennis you know you want it:driving:

Active Thunder!
When I bought my AT back in 1998 It was also looking at the Velocity. I chose the AT and was more convinced of my decision every time I went out in the boat.
Good luck with whichever you decide and congrats.

You will want to keep a close eye on those CMI's if you decide to go with the AT.

I have seen some info on this and also seen some solutions? Is this a real problem or just internet bs?

Cosmic. Yes I really want the AT Love the colors and generally everything about this boat. We just have to close the deal as I now have the money in my hand. I just had neck surgery so I need to heal up a little more.

Unfortunately it is a known fact that the CMI headers can leak, especially once you get over 200-250 hours on them. No problems so far on mine, but I only have 150 hours. My Brother has 300 hours and he has had some issues recently.

With the two boats you decribe, AT all the way. Rides better, is bigger, better lines IMO, 525, better drive, same speed...

CMI headers issues are not exclusive to; but more-so a problem on staggered boats with a long header/tailpipe run that lends to additional flex and vibration.

I saw a 39 TG w/700's leaking at the joint where the header connects to the long tailpipe also... The constant salty drip was landing right on the motor too!

We have not had any issues with any of the Active Thunders running CMI headers (knock on wood). That said, the ATs have very simple, straight, and short tailpipe runs.

Has anyone tried this fix? Both bypass hoses are removed and pluged. Stb. side is drilled out to .406 or 13/32 drill bit. Port side was already .406 like the drawing shows. Check your model. I got this from oso.

Would this make it a "dry exhaust?" If so, that will help the CMI's stay together, but you will have more noise. If I were you I wouldn't worry about the CMI's too much. A lot of them run fine for hundred and hundreds of hours.

Remember, that boat has spent all its life in fresh water those CMI's have'nt seen the salt yet.
