Guys what are some pros and cons to each motor. I realize that the 575's have a little more power are supercharged, but they aren't closed cooling, and they do require more fuel than a 525. I am looking at 38' Top Gun's and I am seeing 575 boats for a lot less than 525 boats, any major differences? What type of speeds can I expect from each package on the top end and cruise? Sorry for all the questions, as I mostly hang in the Apache forum here.

I wouldn't let 575's slow a deal down. I love those motors

The the 525 is a more desireable engine package as it is naturally aspirated and makes almost the same power as the blower 575. The 525 are known to dyno more than rated. The 575 can be increased to 650hp with a superchiller package which is a nice option. The blower engine should have more mid range punch.

Thanks so far guys any top speed or cruise numbers for a 38' Top Gun with each package? Also, what is the regular maintence for each motor?

1. 575's require 93 octane, 525's run on 87
2. 575's are older than 525's so the newer boats will have the 525's but will be more money since they are newer.

Wouldn't be afraid of either motor if maintained properly.

Wild's 575 38TG runs 92 and is 4 sale. I believe the 525's will run 86-87.

The 575 boat around 90 on good day,the 525 around 84 on good day.I have one of each of these boats at my marina and have run them several times,of course some other boats will be a little different,Both engines are great motors but if i were buying a 575 boat it would be alot better if run in fresh water, the intake and thermostat housing rot out and are expensive to replace, the 575 will take a bigger loss of speed in extreme heat, unless intercooler is installed, engine can make 650-675 real easy, the 525 will burn less fuel but is harder to add hp if needed, both engines push the 38ts real nice

My TG w/ 575's will run 93 - 94 (actually 93.9)
Great motor - YOU can work on it and it is reliable.

525's are hampered by the computer, the ave guy would have a tough time woring oin them and/or diagnosing a problem.
