Need some assistance boys (and girls)

A certain mfg needs to know the best hi-perf shops in the major boating areas. I can already tell them about Florida, but I need to know the area you boat in and the shop you would trust. They should already be a Mercury Racing dealer and I'm looking for #6 techs that are the best.

All input is appreciated. Thanks

For the North East, Ocean Performance in CT! For sales, service or anything. They've been doing it longer than anyone and know what their doing. They have one of the best certified number 6 guys as well. Anything you'll need they probably have it. Their facility is top knotch!

Yes, to everyone. I know Chris at Ocean. He would be top-of the list along with all mentioned so far.

How about the mid-west and west coast guys?

Here is the 2nd part of the ?

Would you, as the servicing dealer (for those answering) allow a certified tech remove a drive, ship it to your shop for warranty repair and then ship it back to the "local" shop to re-install the drive? The reason being that there won't be enough demand in all areas to have that caliber of tech on staff at all times when these units need to be repaired

I've spent the better part of the past 4 years visiting high performance marine shops all over the country.

Here's a few that really stand out in the North East.

North of Boston, I highly reccommend Dorr's Marine in Windham, Maine. Tim Dorr has been maintaining race boats and Poker Runners for years. His shop is immaculate and he is up to date on all Merc schools/Certs. He's built several motors for me over the years, I could not be happier with Dorr's work.

Ocean Performance in Old Saybrook CT is a top notch facility that has been in the High Performance business pushing 30 years. Very clean, modern facility. Very experienced with all Merc products.

Long Island New York has several very capable shops, Mid Coast Performance in Patchauge and MRD Perf. in Lindenhurst should be noted.

Upstate NY is home to Sterndrive Specialists, Central Square NY(North of Syracuse) Chris has been in business for years and has a great following.
Lake George (Bolton Landing) is home to Performance Marine, Jason Saris is very well known in the industry for his honesty and top quality workmanship. They also build a killer marine engine.

Chesapeake Bay has MDG Performance in Edgewater, Maryland. Dave Gavatos is one of the most honest guys in the industry and is well known in the Bay area (actually a hidden secret) for his extremely stout engine packages. Tr I've never heard of an MDG built motor ever blowing up. MDG's motors seem to last forever.

As I think of more, I'll update.

I personally wouldnt have a problem with that if the servicing dealer had the capabilities of performing the service. Meaning they understand the high performance product. A #6 dry sump is different from an Alpha 1. Liability would lie on the servicing dealer as well with the drive install and tie bars, props coming off, etc.

Am I thinking wrong here?

Agreed. The diff is major which is what the "client" needs to understand. I've had a big shop and understand the resistance to basically putting your name behind someone elses work.

OBviously, if that was the way the repair had to be handled there would be a clear explanation of who is responsible for what.
