Legend of Apache DVD is So Cool

OK,

I'm sure most of you guys, or a lot of you anyway, have seen "The Legend of Apache" DVD from Big Seas Produtions. I watched it yesterday for the first time (for a review, check out http://speedonthewater.com) and dug it so much I watched it two more times.

If you're a 20-something who grew up outside the high-performance world, most of racer names won't mean anything to you. But if you're a little more, um, seasoned, the number of big-name players (some of them so shady that they eventually went dark) who were involved with Apache is amazing.

And if that doesn't get, clip after clip off huge V-bottoms flying huge distances in huge seas probably will.

Thank you Matt, we appreciate your kind words. Darren worked hard on that compilation, but, in truth, the boats and crews, coupled with Phil Lewis' unparalleled camera work, and Frank De Board's amazing piloting skills (learned flying low level, night missions off carrier's in Vietnam) made the project possible.

To your question....... the characters were MUCH scarier than the seas....and the seas would force the cancellation of racing today....or the ubiquitous "shortening of the course and laps". Some of you may remember that James Caan attended every day of John Gotti Sr's trial in NY to "show support". These were guys who didn't blink when bullets were flying around so why should white water, big seas racing slow them down?

To be fair, we kept the story focused on the boats, the racing, the designs, and the competitive drive that made the Apache name a marque that will forever embody the most colorful time in Offshore racing history.

When (if) I write my book.........some of the "rest of the story"....might come out.

Some of it will, and should, stay buried forever.
