Well, after 2 1/2 missed seasons due to my rebuild and re rig project, it sure felt good to be back in the saddle again.
The new blower motor ran perfectly. The SCX drive shifts like it has a hydraulic tranny in there somewhere : smooth like butter. I had some serpentine belt alignment issuses on Friday which I ironed out. Everything was going well.
I made some short blasts to 4ooo then 4500 and the boat felt good.
Previously, it ran a best ever of 91 so as speed increased, I was taking things easy to get a feel for the boat, listen to the motor and see what handling difference it would have with a prop and skeg actually IN the water as opposed to the BH drive which barely ran 2/3 of a prop blade in the water.
It felt really sure footed so on Saturday eveing, I descided to lay on the throttle a little. I ran it up to 5000 and hit 97.7 mph
Cool I thought, 1000 rpm to go.
I turned around to make another pass and just started winding it up when ....................................................................................................
BOOM. My nice Get Real Performance billet resevoir for the power steering system came apart at the seams and dumped several litres of PS oil all over the belts which inturn nicely sprayed it EVERYWHERE
It would appear that one drop of loctite on the bolts that hold the unit together instead of antiseize would have been the ticket there.
Well, 5 hours of cleaning yesterday seems to have taken care of that little issue.
Managed to get 2 hours on the motor and drive throughout the weekend so definaely more break in time required before I firewall it and hold it there for a prop test but dang, it sure sounds sweet when the boost starts coming on and it pulls like a train from 50 to 90
Friggin Murphy lives in my back pocket and I think he revells in popping out to visit whenever he can.
