An report of a capsized boat near the Long Key Bight oceanside sent Coast Guard crews scrambling from the Islamorada and Marathon Coast Guard stations to search for the vessel around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Lt. Peter Bermont of the Sector Key West Coast Guard.
There were no injuries reported and a Good Samaritan had already picked up four people after the distress call went out, Bermont said Tuesday from the Key West station.
"When the FWC officer boarded the Good Samaritan boat, he reported he found were intoxicated people in the post search from the flipped vessel," Bermont said. "Officers are trained to spot these sort of things."
The owner of the boat was given a violation for negligent operation of the vessel.
"None of the people aboard the boat would admit to driving it," Bermont said.
