Driving back to Port Charlotte in a bit.
No earth shattering news, a lot of wait and see.
The President of the APBA invited the IHRA people to come make a presentation to the Board of Directors of the APBA last Wednesday. Both Leah and Tommy came, but it seemed like they had no idea of what they were going to do except they had a lot of money so they were the best. They wanted to do some joint races, so that's a start I guess, but they did not appear to even agree on that.
We should know more by the end of this week.
They started a post about where would the racers like the World's to be somewhere I was told, and I guess the answer is about 80% in Key West because that is the World's and has been for decades. RWO people are supposed to be meeting with IHRA people this week. They did put out an announcement that the purse for their World's will be $500,000. But that is the exact same amount they said they would be offering this year when they were in Key West this past year, so everyone assumes it's just party of the $2,000,000 they said their total purse would be this year, so the balance of the $2M will be split up between the other 7 races currently scheduled.
So, the answer is still who the heck knows.
The biggest issue seems to be that because of the things that happened last year with promises for money, sponsors, and TV etc. that most people do not trust the statements going out as it's mostly the exact same people who did not keep most promises made by PRO and WPRA. Trust and respect seem to be the biggest issues. Maybe they can be worked out, who knows. Sure hope so. If the groups could work together, Offshore racing could grow around the World. I still have hope, but it's fading. Hopefully the opportunity Wednesday was not wasted, but it appears it may have been.
