    2009 Motor City Fun Run June 19th & 20th
    #1
    O.K. everyone….It’s Official!!!!!!!!

The 2009 Motor City Fun Run will be held on June 19 & June 20, 2009 on the Detroit River, in Detroit, Michigan...

We are still tweaking the final details and are awaiting one more approval/sign-off , but rest assured, you are gonna love it and what we have planned for you…

You said you wanted a simple, all inclusive and no cost/low cost event…

    Well…now you’ve got it!!!

It was designed with all performance offshore powerboaters in mind…both Big $$$ and small $$$ and everyone in between…

But, this is just a preliminary announcement…

The official announcement will be posted on the Poker Runs, Fun Run and Events thread on OSO & SOS…

Incidentally, we are loosely organized as Can-Am Offshore…But, it is actually just a bunch of us frustrated American and Canadian OSO and SOS’ers… The name was necessary to submit proposals for donations, clearances and approvals…

    More on that later…

Our primary base of operations will be Harbor Hill Marina in Detroit, Michigan. They have been so kind as to allow us to shore up, muster up and return there for an after run BBQ/Party…They have also donated some food , will allow us the use of their clubhouse (regardless of weather conditions) and will provide discounted seawall docking for those wanting to tie up overnight on Fri, Sat. or Sun.

They will also allow us to have a pre-run BBQ on the evening of Fri. June 19 as well…

They have a well stocked gas dock, ample parking, a guarded & secure launch ramp, a marine repair facility on-site (Blue water Marine) and one next door (Len's), travel hoist, Hi/Lo w/rack storage, club house, pool, jacuzzi, tennis courts, showers and guest wells if needed…In addition, they can provide guarded storage of those high $$$ haulers and trailers on the marina property w/prior arrangements.

For those that are trailering in, they are located right off Jefferson and St. Jean/Connor and are a short distance from exits on either I-75 or I-94...

The Roostertail , a famous waterfront restaurant and major supporter of all things performance powerboating, has agreed to provide a pre-run breakfast on Sat. June 20th…(and hopefully help with some of the other food expenses)…

We will start the run at approx 10:00am and eventually return to Jack’s Waterfront Restaurant (Lk. St. Clair) at 11:30-12:00am, where, we will meet up and support the Vintage Offshore Group for their boat show & shine. We will depart Jack’s at 1:00pm, with some of the Vintage Offshore guys joining us (yes!!) and head down river towards Wyandotte, Mich…

Note: We are scheduled to dock-up at Jack’s (down river)…the former Bob’s Boat House, but they are in the process of installing docks and a pool, but space will be limited and we are not sure if the docks will be ready for our run…In any case, we have a Plan B and Plan C…

We will also do an “Idle-By” of the Windsor Yacht Club, Lakepoint Marina and Lilly Kazillys on the Canadian side of Peche Island…to show our support for their much appreciated involvement… A strictly enforced 5mph NO WAKE ZONE!!! Just off the shipping channel…

From there, we will run back out into Lake St. Clair, then back to Harbor Hill for the BBQ/Party…

We also have a very, very special treat...designed for those of us that often feel like the "Rodney Dangerfield" of offshore powerboating…Those who aren't fortunate to own an Outerlimits, MTI or the like, etc…and never get any exposure or respect…

I guarantee that you will be “blown away“ and be as ultra-excited as I am…

    You’ll have lot’s of media coverage, lot's of adrenaline, lot's of spectators and lot's respect….rest assured…

So, please, please, please, be on your best “fun run/poker run behavior…Please stay sober!!!

Unfortunately, I can’t divulge the details at this time, because we are awaiting Coast Guard (Both U.S. and Canadian) approval as we speak…

So, at this time….We're gonna need your help...

We need a roll-call response (email) of all the tentative, as well as confirmed RSVP’s as soon as possible…

Please leave us an email at motorcityfunrun@yahoo.com and let us know how many boats &/or how many passengers you are bringing…also let us know when you are coming and any special requests &/or arrangements…

Or, you can call Jim at 313-957-1991

BTW...If you have any access, connections, donations &/or skills that will help make this event a super-duper success, please let us know...

Looking forward to a great event and meeting boating new friends!!!!

    I know the feeling....

I was gonna try to make the Pirate Run, but felt promoting our run was a priority...(Since I started the initial thread)...

But, I'm sure you guys will have a great time and we will try to do the same...

BTW...I have read so many good posts about LEOPRA...And...LEOPRA fun and quality is what we are striving for!!!

    Have fun,

Are you talking about the Pirate Run???

Probably not that one, since our Motor City Fun Run is the same weekend (Sat)...

I may run down that way (Lk. Erie) on Sun...But that may be iffy as well...

We've got quite a few boats coming in from out of town (Ontario, Chicago and W. Mich) and if they stay until Sun., then I will entertain them and give them a personal tour of the local hot spots ?(Gull Island, Metro Beach, the Beach Grill, Muscamoot Bay, etc)...

It's sounding like our group might pass on the Pirate Run for this year and head down to the Motor City Run.

    That's great Matt!!!

Though, we don't want to take anything away from the LEOPRA run...

If you could, would you please be so kind as to email us at motorcityfunrun@yahoo.com to RSVP...

Also, let us know the size and type of each boat...as well as the No.# of passengers in each boat and the skiper's contact info..

Finally, let us know when you are arriving, if you will be trailering or boating in, if you need a guest well or sea wall docking...

There is a pre-run BBQ Fri. night 6/19/08...and a post-run BBQ Sat. 6/20/09...Please let us know if you will be attending those events also...

FYI...This is gonna be a great no cost/low cost event...At present, we already have 28 confirmed boats, from as far away as Toronto, Ontario, Chicago, Ill. and Grand Haven/Spring Lake, Mich....

And the real boating season hasn't even started yet...nor have we begun to cruise the local marina's and powerboating hot spots to personally promote the event...

There is even a contingent of cruisers who want to run with us and will run a modified course...They will meet us at Harbor Hill for the BBQ...

Good, times, good food and good friends...

Looking forward to meeting you and your crew!!!

EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION...2009 Motor City Fun Run Changes....

    Ahoy there everyone,

There have been some minor scheduling changes....

SO PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD AND TELL ALL YOUR ATTENDING FRIENDS!!!!!...

Unfortunately, Harbor Hill Marina and the Roostertail have pulled their support of the 2009 Motor City fun Run...

It was unplanned and unforeseen...we were blindsided at the last minute (yesterday)...But that's O.K....

In the spirit of "All Hands on Deck"...Jack's has really stepped up to the plate and offered their waterfront restaurant as the base camp for our event...

We will now meet at Jack's, rather than harbor hill...

The continental breakfast/driver's meeting will start at 9:00am at Jack's

We will fire up and leave Jack's at 10:30am and run the lake...returning at 12:00 for the Old School Reunion II and boat show...

The rest of the course ans schedule will remain relatively the same with two minor changes...We will run the North Channel, rather than the Middle Channel, due to "No Wake" concerns and we are gonna do the Windsor Yacht club Idle-By earlier and close the run at Jack's...Rather than Harbor Hill...

Jack's has even gone one step further and offered us overnight seawall accommodations, w/shower and security at no charge for both Fri. & Sat. nights...Which is incredible!!!

Note: There is no shore power, which, again is O.K....because, you don't have it at Gull Island, Muscamoot Bay, Strawberry Island or Crystal Bay either???

In addition, we are scheduled to have an 8:00pm meet and greet on Fri. 6/19/09...with free finger food provided, and free seawall dockage...

Note: Heavy Storms are predicted on Fri. w/a 70% chance of precipitation....So, the Fri. event may be canceled, but call the restaurant or Jim Fisher at 313-957-1991 for an update before arriving...

New Boat Launch and Trailering instructions:

For those trailering from the east...Take I-94 to 9 Mile...exit at 9 Mile and turn left (south)...Take 9 Mile south to Jefferson...You will then go thru the light and follow 9 Mile to the Eastpointe Boat Launch (end of road) and pull into the lot at proceed to the guard shack on the other side of the lot...The daily launch fee is $10.00...

For those trailering from the west...Take I-94 to 9 Mile...exit at 9 Mile and turn right (south)...Take 9 Mile south to Jefferson...You will then go thru the light and follow 9 Mile to the Eastpointe Boat Launch (end of road) and pull into the lot at proceed to the guard shack on the other side of the lot...The daily launch fee is $10.00...

Note: Those traveling from West Michigan...take I-96 east to the I-94 interchange in St. Clair Shores and head west on I-94 to 9 Mile...exit at 9 Mile and turn left (south)...Take 9 Mile south to Jefferson...You will then go thru the light and follow 9 Mile to the Eastpointe Boat Launch (end of road) and pull into the lot at proceed to the guard shack on the other side of the lot...The daily launch fee is $10.00...

Note: Again, this is our 1st fun run of the season, but, not the last...And, though the weather may not cooperate and others would like to see us fall on our faces...we refuse to fall/fail... and have tried to cover all the bases. As previously stated, we are very excited and are looking forward to seeing everyone and making new boating friends!!!!!
