When Bob Idoni started working for Popeyes he changed it from a center cockpit to Two Canopied cockpits, He got rid of the powerheads and changed it to Big blocks,The guy from C&G Raced it for a while in M Class.

Way cool back in its day. I took this pic January 2006 when it was sitting behind Xtreme Marine. I think it was crushed shortly after.

Brownie - Thanks. I've been looking for good pics of this boat for a long time. Powerboat ran a nice story about the project with good pics. The story of fastest boat on fire is pretty neat. By that time they had installed capsules for Bill and Al. When #7 handgrenaded, shrapnel tore through a fuel line. That was fire cause. The fire was in the far back until they decelerated and fuel and fire sloshed forward. Bill said it got very interesting at that point. Getting out of the capsule was not a quick or easy thingto do. Somehow, fire makes one do things faster than they could otherwise do. - Steve Sirois

I remember it was run with 6 motors and set a course speed record while qualifying it for a world record. It averaged 103.176 in a complete race of 150 miles on 4 12 86 in Treasure Cay Bahamas.

My friends were at the kilos in Lake Pontchartrain when it burned up.

Back then the wood boats where much stiffer than a glass boat, These days with the high tech glass and construction techniques todays boats rival the ridgidity of the wood boats,Weight was about the same. another plus of the wood was you can make every boat unique where glass boats from a mold are direct copies of each other.
