Porta Performance, TMS Group join forces in advancement of marine technology

In an unprecedented collaboration, Scott Porta, of Porta Performance, and TMS Group are set to make waves in the marine industry by embarking on a ground-breaking mission during the 42nd Race World Offshore World Championships in Key West. This dynamic partnership aims to measure impact encountered at speeds exceeding 100 mph on two specially designed vessels — Coco’s Monkey, a 32-foot Doug Wright catamaran, and Sun Print, a Mod V 29-foot Extreme mono hull.

Porta, widely known for his innovative strake-less running surface/hull design, has integrated this unique concept into both Coco’s Monkey and the Sun Print race boat, creating a baseline for an ambitious project. The main objective of this venture is to capture and translate impact data at high speeds and apply it to the “Boat Of The Future” project. This ground-breaking research and development initiative will be unveiled at the International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans.

The “Racing with a Purpose” exercise in Key West is poised to revolutionize the future of military pursuit boat hulls and running surfaces. Porta Performance and TMS Group are committed to pushing the boundaries of marine technology by capturing data with cutting-edge equipment to enhance the safety and efficiency of these high-performance vessels.

Porta, who will be throttling Coco’s Monkey in the 42nd RWO Key West World Championships, emphasized the significance of this collaboration: “Our mission is to drive innovation in the marine industry by pushing the limits and seeking new solutions to improve the safety and performance of high-speed boats. This venture in Key West is the next step of an ongoing process of what we expect will yield the next generation of boat design and technology.”

The impact and hull performance data captured during the races in Key West will provide crucial insights into the forces experienced by these boats and their captains at extreme speeds, helping to inform the design and engineering of future military pursuit vessels. The collaboration between Porta Performance and TMS Group symbolizes a commitment to enhancing not only boat racing but also the technology that underpins it, ultimately benefiting military applications and marine enthusiasts worldwide.

As we continue to gather data for this endeavor, Porta Performance and TMS Group invite all marine designers, industry professionals and the public to meet and greet the principles during the 42nd RWO Key West World Championships from Nov. 5-12 in Key West.
