The start of the WMO Rock the Coast Weekend was excellent. Things started this morning with Small Craft Advisories until 9:00 PM and a forecast of waves increasing from 2 to 3's up to 5's. Not a good outlook. But, by 5:00 when the start occurred, the lake had settled down to 1 to 3's and the run turned out great. Here are a few Big-Air shots to see who aired it out the most.

Before the Keith Holmes Memorial Run we chatted with Mike Holford who had purchased the Sutphen that Keith Holmes had run a few years back and Pete Boden had got the big air shot during that run. We told Mike his goal was a duplicate air shot. He stated that Keith didn't own the boat at that time, so problems would be more expensive as Mike did.

We think he did very well. What's your opinion?

Keith Holmes ,was my introduction into APBA superboat racing.

    2002 I think it was.

    Iwas living in keywest .

A friend who knew I loved the sound of a roaring big block said ,hey you need to put down the trowel for an afternoon and go down to the mole and listen to the superboats practice today ,(Saturday )
I was hooked. so I walked over to the hot pit gates ,not knowing I couldn't pas to the dock,s where the supercats were.

The "guard " evidently was busy elsewhere .Because I just walked right thru.
I wanted to see the BIO KLEEN boat .It sounded and looked awesome .

As I approached a man named john ??jervasic Or something like that said hi ,im john from baker engines .
We talked a long while .
Then a very happy cordial man in his early 40,s? said hey you wanna come aboard ?
    Yes !!!.
As I did a crew member ( barry glovic )I would later learn to be the throttleman was waxing the deck from front to back .
I was told to take off my shoes ,and climd into the throttlemans cockpit.
It seemed like a mile from my position the drivers cockpit .

After a long time with that whole crew I got a ride I was told never to divulge .kinda moot now.

Funny this very situation was to happen to me again in the near future with another supercat.

The point of this is Keith holmes was very generous , very professional , and a good safe driver for decades .

I asked him one day a couple years ago ,why do you always kiss youre wife right before you close the hatch ?

    Because I love her .

KH you are missed . thank you for youre kind heart and proffesionalism

Thanks. That was one of the best posts in the history of this forum, which somehow seems to capture some magic moments in time from people who were there.
I don't know you, but I like you. You are good people.

Nice story. I probably met you there that year then. We were with them the entire time. I'll write a little blurb later.

Or maybe we should start a new thread for just Keith? Thoughts?

I would think almost all of us oldsters have a K H story .

Like the baker 111 boat he built out of the carlos and charlies.

Rat the Keywest race I shared was the the one where they dropped a valve in one of the motors .
he stayed in the pits all nite rebuilding the top end.
My duty was to go to courtyard deli and get all of you subs to eat .
so I must have run into you
