    Race World Offshore
    4 hrs ·
    For immediate release…
    March 25, 2019
Key West, Florida, Race World Offshore (RWO) has won the evaluation by the City of Key West for the 5 year contract to run the November World Championship races by overtaking Superboat and P1/OPA.

“We scored better than the rest of the field and now the City Council just needs to make it official with a final vote to accept the commission’s recommendations when they meet in early May.” said Larry Bleil, President of RWO. “I am glad to be back, I contracted these Key West races for many years and I could see how SBI was fading and not bringing anything new to the table. The race teams, fans and community are going to be delighted to have RWO running the show in a very upbeat and proactive manner.” Bleil added.

Race World Offshore will provide more details in the coming days as to their schedule and new and exciting Key West activities. For further information contact Lee Stanford: Win@RaceWorldOffshore.global

    This is shocking to me.

Possible 100 points awarded by the Key West City Commission’s ranking committee
    RWO 87 points
OPA/P1 and SBI tied with scores of 82.4 points

    • Proposed Methodology and Approach to Administrative and Financial Management Plan for Annual Power Boat Championship Race—30 points.
    • Financial Impact to the City—30 points.
    • Race Promoter Experience and Qualifications of Firm—30 points.
    • Representative Race Promoter Client References—10 points.

Just think about it for a minute...….

One that gets me, race promoter experience and qualifications of firm, 30 Points.

RWO events 2018. Total announced events, 7. Total events produced, 2.

Cancelled • April 19-22—Riviera Beach Grand Prix, Riviera Beach, Fla.
Cancelled • May 24-26—Rebuild The Keys Hurricane Relief Grand Prix, Key West, Fla.
Cancelled • June 20-24—Rebuild Houston Hurricane Relief Grand Prix, Clear Lake, Texas
Cancelled co-sponsoring last minute • June 23-July 4 - Sarasota Grand Prix, Sarasota, Fla.
Took the SBI Mentor Grand Prix over, 11 boats. Did not pay out the promised $100,000 purse • July 19-22—Greater Cleveland Area, Ohio. (Location to be announced.)
    10 Boats, • August 17-18—Dunkirk, New York
Cancelled • Sept. 21-23—Lake of the Ozarks National Championship, Mo.
Five races cancelled, one race taken over from SBI after SBI had set the entire event up (which had 11 boats show up), and one race organized themselves last year with 10 boats? How would they get any points?

I’m with you on this. Something doesn’t add up. There is a lot at stake $$$$ for the city if these races fail to deliver.

It's offshore racing and Florida. So that pretty much rules out corruption.

None that I know of. Larry of RWO was the one who worked on the contracts for SBI with the Navy and Conch Republic for quite awhile I believe. Roderick of RWO was the SBI person in charge of promotions.

So far, the race teams I've talked to, have said they will not go if RWO gets the event.

    Talks cheap....

N.B.R.G. expressed interest. Though when it was revealed that they intended to have a course that actually went out of the harbor and offshore, their proposal was rejected.

My guess is, when the council reviews the documents, they will go with one of the other orgs. They have to have boats show up for the event. RWO has never put on an event which drew boats. Mark Small headed up the two Lake Erie events, but he is no longer in boat racing. Even with his assistance the Mentor race, which was taken over by RWO from SBI, went from 26 boats to 11.

And they had promised a $100,000 purse for that event, (It did not get paid of course).

Random thought.... RWO was teamed up with OPA untill just before the submissions..... Then they split, This took SBI from a 55/50 shot to a 33/66 shot at getting it.....

Now Key West says "we like your plan but we are worried about boat count" and suddenly RWO teams back up with OPA, boat count goes way up and key west is happy.

Not saying this is what happened, but it does make an interesting scenario, now doesnt it...

I doubt RWO can team up with OPA. OPA and P1 have signed a contract for 6 joint races. They have officially inked 5. And, P1 and OPA jointly applied to put on the Key West race (their 6th race?).

    Just sayin.

Yep, that was back in November of last year, before the falling out between Smitty and Larry, and before OPA and P1 inked their joint effort.

For that to happen now, it would take all three orgs to band together. I just don't see that happening, but I've been wrong before.

Giving a written report means nothing. Anyone who went to college is used to writing BS and getting a good grade.
