The Lumber City will be feeling the Thunder on the Niagara this weekend.

The 13th annual boat racing event at Gratwick Riverside Park will feature hydroplanes flying and thundering across the water at speeds of up to 170 mph. Gratwick Park opens for all the action starting at 8 a.m. with the first race scheduled to begin around 9 a.m. today.
EVENT: Gratwick Riverside Park hosting hydroplane races this weekend.

Snyder Industries will serve as the main sponsor for this year’s race while the Niagara Frontier Boat Racing Association (NFBRA) will be partnering with the Hydroplane Racing League (HRL), formally called the American Canadian Hydroplane Association (ACHA).

Both speed boat organizations will have more than 70 race boat teams participating in the series event, which is considered “the fastest show on water.”

Food vendors and crafters will be on-site. The event will also feture a car show hosted by Buffalo Motorama, as well as the return of members of Frontier Skydivers Inc. showcasing their talents with an American/Canadian theme. The skydiving team is scheduled for a noon jump on Sunday.

Parking will be available at Gratwick Riverside Park for a $10 donation that will include a race program. A portion of the proceeds of the parking fee will benefit Twin Cities Community Outreach.

Attendees are asked to enter the park using the Ward Road entrance.
