    Miami Boat Show Innovation Breakfast agenda, keynote speaker announced
    February 1, 2018
    By The National Marine Manufacturers Association

    The National Marine Manufacturers Association has announced the agenda for the annual Innovation Breakfast at the 2018 Progressive InsuranceThe National Marine Manufacturers Association

    Presented by GM Marine Engine Technology and the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) and, with support from Enterprise Florida, the Innovation Breakfast is being held Friday, Feb. 16, within the show’s Center Courtyard.

    Keynoting this year’s Innovation Breakfast is U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke.

    NMMA and its partners in the Outdoor Recreation Industry Roundtable have been working with Zinke to explore enhancing boating and fishing access in our nation’s public waterways.

    Zinke has been a significant supporter of recreational boating and fishing and recently announced the creation of a Recreation Advisory Committee to help explore how to improve outdoor recreation opportunities for Americans.

    "It’s our honor to welcome Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke to the 2018 Miami International Boat Show as keynote speaker and to witness firsthand the impact and forward-thinking of America’s recreational boating and fishing industry,” said Thom Dammrich, NMMA president. “The Secretary has demonstrated his commitment to ensuring Americans have robust access to our public lands and waters and has worked to create a dialogue with the outdoor community to understand our priorities. His keynote is an opportunity to hear directly from the Secretary as he shares his perspective on boating and the outdoors.”

    Celebrating the thousands of innovative products, ideas and services showcased during the Miami International Boat Show each year, the Innovation Breakfast will feature a host of presentations focused on propelling the recreational boating industry. Here’s the complete agenda:

    Welcome by Larry Berryman, show manager;
    Opening remarks and CSI Awards, Thom Dammrich, NMMA president;
    Special VIP guest speaker to be announced;

    Miami International Boat Show upgrades transit plans
    Written by Katya Maruri on February 6, 2018

    With the 77th annual Miami International Boat Show around the corner, transportation options such as water taxis and shuttle buses from Downtown Miami to Virginia Key will be offered to guests as part of the show’s enhanced transportation plan, according to show manager Larry Berryman.

    “This year we have really focused our efforts on creating a dynamic transportation plan,” he said. “During the past couple of years over 50,000 attendees have traveled back and forth to the show using water taxis.”

    As a result, he said, “this year we decided to have stops located at Bayfront Park and the AmericanAirlines Arena, which has a decent-size boat slip.”

    The free water taxi pick-up and drop-off locations, which will be at both water taxi locations, Mr. Berryman said, will begin operating at 9 a.m., one hour before the show opens, and conclude at 7 p.m., one hour after the show closes.

    Water taxi locations include:

    ■Bayfront Park, 100 Chopin Plaza
    ■AmericanAirlines Arena, 601 Biscayne Blvd.

    In addition, he said, the water taxis, which will be provided by Mike Simpson, the president of Island Queen Cruises, will offer guests an extensive range of vessels to choose from to get to and from the show, with boats ranging from 30 to 100 feet.

    As for other transportation options, he said, “we will also have complimentary shuttle buses, which are provided by Hello! Florida, running to and from the parking hub in downtown Miami at the AmericanAirlines Arena, getting more people to and from the show in less time.”

    Other locations that the shuttle buses will run from include:

    ■Lot A – Arthur Lamb Jr. Road & Rickenbacker Causeway, Virginia Key
    ■Lot B – Historic Virginia Key Beach, 4020 Virginia Beach Drive, Virginia Key
    ■Lot C – Seaquarium, 4400 Rickenbacker Causeway, Virginia Key

    All shuttle buses, Mr. Berryman said, will run all show days from 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

    “Lots A and B are our primary lots and cost $35 to park at,” he said. “We will also have FreeBees, which are electric golf carts, transporting guests from the parking lots directly to the entrance of the show.”
    Parking at Lot C, which is one of the show’s preferred lots, he said, costs $50, while Lot D, which is run by valet and located next to the Miami Marine Stadium at Whiskey Joe’s Bar & Grill at 3301 Rickenbacker Causeway, costs $100 for valet parking.

    “At the end of the day, it’s all about convenience,” he said. “All transportation options are free and of no charge. All you need to do is just show your ticket and you can hop one of our water taxis or shuttle buses and enjoy the show.”

    Boats abound for Miami Yacht Show and Miami boat show

    It’s boats and more boats in Miami during February with two shows that run Feb. 15-19.

    Most yacht captains and crew are on board at the Miami Yacht Show, a collection of brokerage and new yachts in the Indian Creek Waterway along Collins Avenue in Miami Beach. That show is co-owned and produced by the International Yacht Brokers Association and Show Management.

    Walking area has doubled with 5,000 feet of new docks, and upgrades to equipment are valued at about $7 million, according to Andrew Doole, vice president/general manager of Show Management Informa. There will be 14 buses and tenders to take visitors between Collins Avenue and Island Gardens.

    Larger yachts are on display at Island Gardens Deep Harbour along the MacArthur Causeway in Miami, in a section of the show branded as Super Yacht Miami. M/Y Here Comes the Sun, a 245-foot Amels, is the largest and will be joined by about four more yachts over 200 feet.

    The other show is the Miami International Boat Show at the Miami Marine Stadium Park and Basin on Virginia Key in Miami. It runs at the same time. National Marine Manufacturers Association, which owns and runs the event, expects 1,400 boats representing more than 175 brands on land and in the water.

    This year will see increased collaboration between the shows, with more shuttles for attendees to travel between both shows. For more information on Miami Yacht Show visit www.miamiyachtshow.com, and for the Miami International Boat Show visit

    Amid signs the economy is strong overall — until last week, the stock market was reaching new peaks — boat retailers are anticipating a wave of new buyers. And with two important boat shows coming to South Florida this week, there’ll be more good news for South Florida’s boating community — fishermen, recreational boaters, or anyone else who benefits from the approximately $11.5 billion that the industry generates for the region.

    Boats made in South Florida will be featured among the top-of-the-line vessels from other parts of the country at the 2018 Progressive Insurance Miami International Boat Show and the Miami Yacht Show 2018 . Popular center-console fishing boats on display in the water and on land at Virginia Key include models from SeaHunter Bo ats of Princeton, Doral-based SeaVee Boats , Dusky Marine of Dania Beach and Contender Boats of Homestead, as well as newcomer Streamline Boats of Opa-locka .

    Cigarette Racing Team of Opa-locka , whose name is synonymous with high-performance powerboats, will introduce a couple of new models at the Miami Boat Show. Other popular brands on display include Sea Ray, Beneteau, Boston Whaler, MasterCraft, Regulator, Hatteras, Viking and Zodiac
