A New Force in Offshore Powerboat Racing Hits the Water at Full Speed!

August 3, 2017, Raleigh, North Carolina; When the principals of Race World Offshore, LLC set out to change the face of professional Offshore Powerboat Racing, it wasn’t just idle talk. With more than 50 years of combined experience through CROPRA (Conch Republic Offshore Powerboat Racing Association), organization President, Larry Bleil, and his team know what it takes to make a successful series. APBA/UIM international sanctioning, simplified class structures, significant prize purses and national television coverage are but a few of the assets the new organization will be providing to its race teams during the 2018 season.

“It’s time that we return offshore powerboat racing to the excitement, pageantry and glory days of the past,” states Bleil, “and to operate the series in the same professional safe manner as the mainstream motorsports of NASCAR, F1 and Indy Car. Our initial plan is to offer seven events at venues located within large population areas, including two races in our home town of Key West.”

Race World Offshore’s series opener starts in Key West, pending Navy approval. Additional race venues will include a variety of Florida and Southeast locations, plus a three-month long series within the series called “The Great Lakes Offshore Championship.”

Safety of the racers and fans will be top priority for the new organization, which will feature enhanced course designs, all canopied boats, simplified and appropriate class structures for each venue and a full contingent of trained marine safety crews, paramedics and airlift capabilities.

Larry Bleil understands the importance of national media coverage for the growth of the sport as well as fan base development and sponsor acquisition for the racers. Race World Offshore coverage will include national television broadcasts of each event, featuring flag-to-flag coverage of the races and back stories on the teams and the technology that make up today’s professional offshore racing.

All teams will have the opportunity to showcase their organization with Race World Online, where fans can watch live streams of races while chatting with other users, watch previous races, view current standings and interact with the racers themselves!

The stated mission of Race World Offshore, LLC is to move professional offshore powerboat racing toward the future by returning to the professionalism, safety and “Big Show” excitement of the past.

And, since Larry has always been a key player to get the sanctioning for the Key West Worlds, is this the last SBI Key West race this November?

A set of interviews, with many questions answered, of Larry Bleil by WKWF Sports Radio and American Performance Radio.

    Very Interesting

It is kind of surprising to me that Larry said John just told them no. Would not even give them a number to purchase SBI. Especially with John's current age and health.

Seems like it would have been a perfect opportunity for John, including a legacy.

That one was a whole lot of what-ifs. This one appears to be real.

    The end of SBI?

Did you listen to the entire interview?

Merchandising isn't going to generate enough income to pay the Key West bar bill for most teams.

There is one thing Larry said, more than once, that I don't agree with. "No open boats, canopy only." Cause he feels they are too dangerous?

Obviously he has not done any homework, just putting out his opinion with zero facts.

Unless I am totally screwed up, there have been a total of 12 deaths on offshore racing this century (2000 until now). Of those deaths, 10 have been in canopied boats and 2 have been in open boats.

He should promote a couple of open classes. It is the only way to build young racers for the future of the sport. APBA knows that well with the J-Boats etc.

It would be nice if they all worked together and actually tried to do much of what Larry is saying.......

...or discussions with insurance companies convinced them the premiums were too high to cover open cockpit boats.

I believe Larry works/worked for the Spottswood Companies Inc (SCI) as a general contractor through their Keystar subsidiary.Previously he worked through CROPRA in securing the town council permit for races and the county for TDC money.CROPRA existed for the primary benefit of SCI and their hotels ("heads in beds",right?). CROPRA signed an agreement with SBIP/Carbonell to act as a "contractor" to produce the race through 2018. Larry admitted under this Race World Offshore entity, CROPRA goes away. So the question is,has SCI decided to simply take a more direct approach to control the KW race in light of the Carbonells exit after 2018? If so, what are they proposing to invest in the organization to make any of the grandiose dreams come to fruition? And with whom? For example, do they have a title sponsor lined-up to fund it?

It looks as if they are still moving forward. There are currently 6 classes being considered according to their requests for input.
