The past will come alive as the vintage and classic race boats of bygone eras return to Wooton Park in Tavares, Florida for our 10th annual Tavares Spring Thunder Regatta. Tavares is now a major stop on the Florida Vintage Race Boat Circuit with over 75 beautifully restored vintage and classic race boats running demonstration laps on a 1 mile oval course on beautiful Lake Dora. In addition to seeing and hearing these unique and beautiful boats run, spectators are invited to view them close-up in the pit area at Wooton Park on both Saturday and Sunday. We will be running large heats of all the APBA vintage classes, including outboards, classic glass, small hydros, mid-hydros, large hydros, flatbottoms, skiffs, speedsters, gold cuppers, and fire breathing grand prix hydros. The sights and sounds will be just magnificent and admission is free, so come join all the fun !!!

And joining the local fleet of vintage race boats during the winter months when the northern summer vintage events are in hibernation, the northern snow birds are increasingly hauling their beautifully restored vintage and classic race boats down to Florida to enjoy the sunny and warm Florida weather and to participate on our fast growing Florida Vintage Race Boat Circuit. With the flat water on the small inland Florida lakes, these regattas are attracting large boat counts with well over 75 vintage and classic race boats at the last several events, along with huge crowds. The regatta participants have fun running their beautifully restored vintage race boats at speed on a race course in the warm Florida sun, and the public gets a chance to see, hear and experience the rich history of Florida powerboat racing. Admission is free, so come join all the fun for our next event !!!

Can’t Wait To Race Down To Lake Dora In Three Weeks? There Is A Solution For That!

Many Woody Boaters go down the week before to Lake Dora for an entire week of fun. There is fun stuff for weeks in advance. For the slow pokes, there is the St Johns River Cruise. And for the more hyper type. Races! Vintage boat races that are just as insane as they have always been.

The guys take it seriously and give a fantastic show on the lake. Trust us, you get a full dose of fossil fuel burning, and air/noise pollution. It’s fantastic. You can just stand there are suck in summers of your past. Its all there. Except everyone is a little slower and older. Just don’t look in the mirror and all will be well.
