MARBLE FALLS, Texas (KXAN) — A man who was participating in the 25th annual LakeFest on Lake Marble Falls Sunday was sent to the hospital after his boat crashed and caught fire.

A spokesperson with the Marble Falls/LBJ Chamber of Commerce says Scott Lumbert was driving the Spirit of Texas boat when it crashed. The Highlander News reports the drag boat was racing in the final rounds, traveling at speeds of 240 mph, when it crashed.

It looked like there was more fire and water than there should have been once he got to the finish line and once the water and smoke finally cleared there was nothing left of the boat,” said Marble Falls Police Department Capt. Glenn Hanson to the Highlander News.

The Facebook page for the Spirit of Texas, indicates Lumbert is still in the intensive care unit and is currently breathing with the help of a ventilator.

Lumbert races the Spirit of Texas for David Kirkland Racing. According to DavidKirlandRacing.com, Lumbert is currently recognized “as the fastest man on water” after recording a speed of 274 mph on the Spirit of Texas boat.

During last year’s LakeFest, Mike Fry died when his boat crashed during a race. It was the first death in the race’s 25-year history.

Video posted by Pamela Schott on Facebook shows the dramatic crash.

Scotts great friend and future competition, Dillon Silvey sent an awesome card and pictures. It's sentiments like these, pictures, cards etc...that means so much. Scotts range of movement has had a slight increase which is good. They say that we may see a plateau in his progress but not to be alarmed. I am not worried. Scott is stubborn and competitive and would love to prove them wrong. Through continued prayer and faith he will prevail. I can't tell you how much I personally appreciate the support you all have given us. The scriptures, words of inspiration and tokens of love. God Bless you all.
